[EVENT CHAT] Cars On Fire + You, The Living + City Of Ashes @ Haymakers, 25/07/10

Scumpunch Productions (promoter from the US of A- ooo!) present:

CARS ON FIRE

Bristol-based Reuben/Ghost Of A Thousand types who are defined by their enthusiasm on stage, motivation, movement, and technical artistry.

"A flaming ball of stylish fury, they switch effortlessly between rage and restraint, carnage and calm….Cars On Fire have ignited a spark that, in time, could well become a raging inferno. KKKK" -Kerrang

"Transcends into an impossible to contain aural inferno. One scorching mutha! 8/10" -Rocksound

YOU, THE LIVING

Cambridge's resident ethereal alt. rockers who are equal parts Muse, Mogwai and My Bloody Valentine. YTL aim to rewrite the power trio book with their interweaving delay-drenched guitar gymnastics and in-your-face fuzzed-up bass rumblings.

"Like Placebo being bashed into the ground by Tool" -Hockley Hustle

CITY OF ASHES

Eastbourne-based heavies who serve up a cocktail of bludgeoning riffs, InMe-esque singalong choruses and enough caustic energy to tire out a Duracell bunny.

Am I not on the guest list?

WOW!

From You, the living myspace.

"The band are currently continuing their relentless onslaught of the UK with no signs of slowing down until they reach the top. With the release of their debut single, 'Hold On For Your Life'; You, The Living are setting their phasers from 'stun' to 'kill' as they infiltrate the airwaves on their path to world domination.

So hold on, kid- hold on for your life!

Also of note City of Ashes have a "Technical Director and Sound Engineer" named on their site. I don't know why I find this particularly chucklesome, maybe its the earnest faithfulness of this sound engineer. He could pick-up £40 a night for doing other bands but he believes so strongly in his mates that he only twiddles the knobs for them.

I'm interested as to what this person does to fulfil the description of Technical Director.

Are You, The Living named after the Swedish film?

^ Yes, m_white- they are.

ha :-) The most depressing 'comedy' I've ever seen, but I chatted to my Norwegian friend about it and he said it was his favourite film. He even dumped an ex for not liking it! He explained the Scandinavian sense of humour which is to either laugh at the shitness of life or kill yourself, which explains the whole film really.

It's top on my list to revisit. Apart from the bleakness, I think I was expecting the same kind of cute melancholy that permeates Aki Kaurismaki;'s films, rather than the utter onslaught of savage humour that You The Living has. I've finally promised myself a weekend off work this weekend, so I'll probably watch it again.

ah I remember now that they are your band.

Indeed it is! :p lso, that blurb is a night's worth of drunken buzzword brainstorming.

So you`ve changed your name from Chasing Melfina to You, the Living.

Published by daggg at 10:59am on Sat 19th June 2010.

Yeah. People were having trouble remembering it, spelling it and finding us so we changed it to something easier.
