Adverts you love

One I'm loving at the moment is the one with the animated chap with a suitcase full of smiles for the lottery. It's quite sweet.

Anyone else?

don't think its been on for a little while but i like the one with the mother and child in the supermarket...the child is about to throw a tantrum for not being allowed to get some crisps or something but the mother throws one instead. The child rather puzzled and frightened thinks better of his tantrum!

Can't remember what it was advertising though

The Specsavers one where the daughter brings her boyfriend round for dinner. He laughs at all her mums jokes then the she gets her mum into the kitchen and says "mum, why aren't you wearing your glasses" and she says shes got these contacts. Later at the bus stop he says "your mum's nice" and she does a great disgusting scowl! Makes me laugh everytime cos the daughter's such a silly cow!

i used to like that one, think it was for some tyre company, that used a Velvet Underground's 'Venus In Furs' as a soundtrack, with fitting visuals.

I like the one for the bier 1668. The look on composer's face at the end is priseless.

The one for some breakfast bar where a couple are hiking and see william shatner, makes me laugh everytime

Loved that VW one with the Singin' In The Rain remix, also another of theirs with Boards of Canada. There was a good Mercedes one with an Aphex Twin tune too.

I like the Nicorette one where smug office fella is "cutting down". I like the way that the bloke that's still valiantly smoking despite the gale blowing outside asks if he can "pinch a faaag" - it's said in exactly the tone that people really DO ask that.

Also, it makes me feel smug - SIX MONTHS FAG FREE!!

yeah the 'come to your senses one' is awesome. spat out tea with that.

The Grolsch aliens one where at the end they do the theme tune of Close Encounters of the Third Kind blowing over bottles, and the last alien fucks it up - makes me cry with laughter every time!

Agree, I adore that ad, I've seen it twice over the weekend and love the style of animation, it's got a very early cartoon style - bit like the first Mickey Mouse film.

I love the Audi ad with the spider's web and anything by Honda, they're always brilliant.

Published by Smithy at 5:10pm on Mon 10th April 2006.

That's funny, I really dislike the Honda ones. That voice just sounds so smug, and they always seem to be very "ooh, look at how clever and different we're being", to me. Agree on the lottery one though.

that pirelli one with venus in furs was blinding... i only saw the full version (the en-tyre (geddit?) song) twice but was blown away.

I really like the aol one about the internet being evil... its so much better than the one where the internet is good

and i like the one for jaguar that says "beautiful does this, beutiful thinks that"... cos it reminds me of me ;-)

I feel like screaming everytime i hear that one...why does money have to be so systematically applied to superficial? Just thinking about this i suddenly remember how much tv stinks!! It's all about about the promotion of mediocrity!!!
...ahem. Sorry JA...what just happened??

Published by Virginie at 6:35pm on Mon 10th April 2006.

The one with William Shatner is strange. It's like they're trying to connect their product to a celebrity, but they have to announce who the celebrity is because otherwise people might not recognize him now he's old and fat and doesn't look like a starship captain. Anyway I think they shoot themselves in the foot a bit because I'm not sure what product they're advertizing, it just seems like an advert for William Shatner.

i think that is what i love about it virginie.... the sickness of it all... the jean paul gaultier style chic application.... i think it amuses me in the same way that mindless pop amuses some people who "know better"

I particularly like the sponsorship ads during ITV drama stuff - the ones for TalkTalk with people making shapes. Simple little idea that works nicely. The one with a cup of tea and steam is fab.

actually..... the budweiser one about americans trying to play football always makes me laugh

the really old carling black label, and the guy who did the cigar ads....cant remember his name tho

i also often find myself singing the song about what it'll be for tea.... was it maccains?

".... will it be (something), fried onion rings? we'll have to wait and see.... hope its chips, its chips...."

personally i normally substitiute (something) with a swear word or something botuse like rhombus

when i first arrived in england, there was an ad i found really funny. It was a lizard dancing on the sand saying "hot hot hot..." i can't remember what it was for but does it matter? it was fun. British ads are often excellent quality:)

i LOVE all the Malibu adverts "if we in the Carribean took life as seriously as the rest of the world"

Published by Dejavoodoo at 9:22am on Tue 11th April 2006.

I did love the Honda "Hate Something, Change Something" ad, with the bunnies. So much so that I emailed the company and they sent me out a CD with that song on....cheers me up no end, as I chug along in my ozone-destroying petrol guzzling car....

Published by freckles at 9:35am on Tue 11th April 2006.

Will it be chips, or jacket spuds?
Will it be salad or frozen peas?
Will it be mushrooms? Fried onion rings?
We'll have to wait and see.
Hope it's chips, it's chips, We all hope it's chips, it's chips....

come on everybody! sing along!

... on a similar theme, I think the McCain's "Daddy or chips" one is quite cute.

The square crisps ones a year or so back were genius "Look, it's the dog with 2 heads and 2 bodies". As were the Pot Noodles ones, where the guy got slapped loads for suggesting Pot Noodle to various women.

Also, as much as I can appreciate the comedy in these, I've not bought a single Pot Noodle or bag of Square Crisps since

here's what all the fuss is about. What a dissappointment that this beautiful thing is a lottery ad... But what a beautiful thing nevertheless:

[geek]The director Marc Craste made a series of tiny animated films called pica towers and then a slightly bigger one called Jo Jo In the Stars. They're all pretty cool if you ever get to see them.[/geek]

Ooh yeah the bouncing balls one is great. Do you think they're real or digitised? I can't make up my mind about it....

By the way, here's a great little website that tells you what the music is from ads. I've spent a fortune on cds because of this darn site!

I love the Orange ads "Lord of the Ringtones!" deliciously silly!. Sorry ax, but the lottery ad is really creepy, sort of like Tim Burton gone wrong!

I like this ad for blackcurrant tango , "ray gardner" (david brent of tango) getting a letter of complaint from sebastian lloyd a foreign exchange student (all hair gel and fancy loafers) . Ray striding out of his office whilst stripping down to purple boxer shorts then proceeding to a boxing ring on top white cliffs of dover with 3 harrier jump jets in background. Shouting "Come on then sebastian ,right here right now ,you and me ,come on france ,europe ,the world ,i`ll take you all on . I`m ray gardner i drink blackcurrant tango .Come and get me ."
The ad didnt run for long ,maybe the ITC didnt get the irony of it ,thought it too xenophobic .
