More on the bridge and the demented opposition to this necessary development.

I'm eagerly awaiting the inevitable "They don't pay road tax!" comment on there.

Unanimously supported by the Council....
The NIMBYs have lost!
Horray for bikes, freedom, logic, and equality.

Fen Ditton has been plagued by swathes illegal fly posting against the bridge.
These poorly written ugly posters should be ignored by anyone who values community and country alike.

It looks like we'll be getting more of the Chisholm Trail, too. The next bit to the south is approved "pending planning permission":

And to the north it joins up with the guided busway access road, which I think they've started building already.

So is the video saying, "To cut costs and reduce risks, the new bridge will be built entirely in Second Life"?

Oh, and it doesn't show the pillbox, which the official plans suggest will be retained.

Pill Box... for fans of Pill Boxes

I've always giggled at the idea of some squaddy sitting in that Pill Box knowing that Hitlers crack divisions have landed at Wells - next to the sea and are storming towards London and your given orders to stop them at the Cam.

I think that they were largely psychological. People could see the Pillboxes and think they were better defended than they were. Also building them gave people who weren't fighting something to do, make them feel involved and part of the collective effort.

I think the WW2 defence strategy consisted of rather more than just pillboxes.

It's just that most of it wasn't made of bloody enormous lumps of concrete that are a complete pain in the ass to remove.

Carillion were going to build the bridge... now what?
