Any chance of being able to upload avatars for your posts or load a pic to your profile?

Published by QueenBlag (not active) at 4:14pm on Wed 9th August 2006.

Also a way of bookmarking your favourite threads to your profile as well might be interesting.

I'm pretty conservative when it comes to WAN (not politically, mind!) so would say - please don't just add lots of fancy stuff just for the sake of it - it works pretty damn well as it is. If it ain't broke, don't ponce around with it!

Published by Jude 1 (not active) at 4:17pm on Wed 9th August 2006.

What if the 3 in WAN 3 stood for 3D :).
Each thread could be a room or universe in a vritual space.
We could have avatars in this 3D space like Giant Red Lobsters or Pigeons or Strangly Fat Shrew .
Also we could have hit point stuff and be able to shoot bolts of fire from our eyes or finger or what have to at each other . . . literally a flame war!!! YHEEERRRR

Come on Mr T . . . an hours coding? . . . mybe two?

any chance we could get the facility back which allows you to just click on new posts on a thread rather than having to scroll down from the top? I'm sure this has probably already been explained somewhere as to why it's been changed but I found that to be so useful and so much more user friendly than it is now.

this one could be used for talking about tea

Example of a virtual space for discussing cycling or cakes.

I cant see why we've lost this.
After all threads are high lighted when they have changed and when you go into the thread your served a page that differentiates by the New replies since your last visit.
So it dosent make any sence that we cant have a link that takes us straight to New replies since your last visit instead of having to scroll down to it manually!?!

actually one thing that mildly irritates me is that when you click 'log in' from a thread (in order to post on that thread) it takes you back to the index :/

Published by gramsci at 4:30pm on Wed 9th August 2006.

you can click the link at the top, with the first post to 'new since you're last visit' instead of scrolling, and it's not that hard to relearn. pay attention jp! ;)

> ah...I wasn't paying attention either on that one...
Hadnt noticed that :)

It would still be neater to be able to do it with one click instead of 2.

user ratings or post counts? might be a bad idea as i've seen other boards have people post all sorts of crap just to boost their post count, but user ratings could be quite funny.... 'cept i'd do bad.

> Your utopian vision of WAN3 is scaring me, Joosy....
Yes and I think we should enter WAN3D by wearing special virtual reality headset like a big plastic bucket

Published by joosypigeon at 4:42pm on Wed 9th August 2006.

That'd look nicely discreet while furtively WANing at work, wouldn't it. No-one'd ever guess that you weren't gainfully employed on office-related business, would they!

Published by Jude 1 (not active) at 4:43pm on Wed 9th August 2006.

If it hasn't already been planned, and doesn't cause too much SQL overhead, a search forum function would be muchos handy, as I've often wanted to look at an old post for reference but had no idea where it was in the range of a few hundred pages.

Published by Robadob at 5:49pm on Wed 9th August 2006.

There is already a search function courtesy of google

Maybe if there was an option to invert the threads on here (ie have the most recent posts at the top). That's mainly down to the ineptitude of my mouse, but it'd make enormathreads much easier to arrange. Also, more than one pic. per event would be ace if bandwidth allows.

Published by Matt Abysmal at 8:48am on Thu 10th August 2006.

Hooray! The new posts bit has come back! I used to really like it and here it is- it's back!

Published by ax_coterie at 11:09am on Thu 10th August 2006.

The only thing about inverting threads is you might see some information you don't want to see until you've seen it in context. I don't know if that makes sense, but it might be like reading the punch line before the joke. Anyone know what I mean?

If, when you logged in, you returned to the place you were when you clicked on login, that would be useful if it didn't take too much code (?) or whatever. But that's a very minor thing to be honest.

talking to collegue just now, he asked 'Have they got RSS feeds for new topics yet?' I think this would be way way too much, but maybe a low grade version or something.

There kind of is one already. It's a google search and a fairly 'blunt tool', but does work. I think you find it from the homepage?

Published by Jude 1 (not active) at 2:58pm on Wed 6th September 2006.

Yup, go to the WAN homepage, then along the left hand side under the "WAN Stuff" heading there is a 'Search' link, which allows you to put in a word or words and do a google search of the site for them.

Nooo! Don't delete threads!! That would be soooo annoying!! What if you want to search for some information someone wrote a while ago that wasn't useful to you then, but is now?

Can we have a way to quote people so we can reply to their comments?

that happens as well, if you look at anything Saint Nick wrote using that id, his name is now just normal text (ie without a link to the profile page) and says inactive next to it.

Speaking of which, why are you posting a GM again? so you can conversations with yourself promoting your events Nuts and Raisins stylee?

Published by lozzy at 12:55pm on Thu 7th September 2006.

dunno if someone said this already but a search option for idle chat would be ideal, ie if you want to look for a specific word which appears in different chats.
cheers

In terms for features, it seems that implementing some sort of iCal support for downloadable calendar would be very nice. This way, one could set the We're all Neighbors web-calendar (webcal://) into his prefered application (e.g. Evolution, Outlook, etc) and always have the latest and greatest from you updated automatically. Lots of users, like myself, keep their computer calendar (which would now include events from your iCal) syncronized on their mobile, iPod or other portable device. You could even make a few iCal feeds available for different types of events.

Since you already have calendar functionalities on you site, it seems an obvious step which would really improve the availability of your site and info.

Let me know if you want me to test this.

You can search for threads. Go to the homepage and look to the left hand side. I think it's under WAN Stuff.

It's not great, but it works.

You can also find older threads by using the numbers below the list of threads, that goes back through them.
