Leave Them Kids Alone
This brand new campaign was started by parents at St Matthew's Primary School in Norfolk Street which recently started fingerprinting our children without proper consultation and without express parental consent.
When we looked into the issue we found that 3500 other schools right across the UK are doing exactly the same thing. The lack of consultation seems to be par for the course. So far, we haven't found a single school that has sent out the opt-in consent slips that schools seem to use for just about everything else.
Frankly, children giving fingerprint proof to take out library books isn't the kind of country we want to live in!
We have already already got as far as The Cambridge Evening News, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and BBC TV Look East, and now we are looking to move the campaign up to the next level. Our ultimate aim is to get the widespread use of biometrics in schools debated in Parliament and strictly regulated.
We would welcome any other parents at the school who would like to join us, but we're also looking for support from other concerned residents.
