WAN vs Covid

would a meetup (if such things still happened) be limited to 6 people?

We'll need substantial meals ... maybe Bigmal can procure some sausages?

How big is Bigmal's sausage, would 6 people feel satisfied after?

What's this^^^^^

Now as you all now I am not one to complain, but...

I never stole any sausages, I was told I could have some. The lengh of my own personal sausage is my business and my business alone, unless you are sharing Big Mal.s lurve dungeon with me.

what is the best post-lockdown pub in Cambridge? have to confess i've not been in any (if you exclude Cottenham)

The Empress is open for business.

i haven't seen any former WAN people in a long time. surely the Empress was never a great pub, i know it's off Mill Road so has hallowed status but still

The Empress is dire and has only worsened since dickhead Dave took over from decent Dave a decade or so ago. he's also a Brexiteer, unsurprisingly. Boycott.

PS i have it on good authority that Bigmal is indeed a sausage thief.

One of my most vivid memories of the Empress is of turning up there one Christmas Day to find all the staff dressed in cheesy elf costumes.

Dave himself was prancing around with a massive grin on his face, happy as a pig in shit; everyone else looked like they were just about ready to murder someone.

I stopped going to the Empress years ago. The beer was poor, the drinkers unwelcoming and there were noisy children running wild in the garden. Bar staff were rude to a mate of mine and he walked out. I don’t know if this was under new Dave or old Dave but I feel no need to go back again.

I went to the Alex a few times after Covid, It was nice. You could book a table under cover outdoors for up to six, beer and staff were great and it felt safe. Not an option under tier 4 obviously.

i was out on my bike last night and passed The Flying Pig, they appeared to have some music on at the back, and quite a few people in the beer garden. it was tempting, but i didn't bring my purse with me. i guess tonight is the last chance until Lockdown #3 is passed

I've been enjoying the royal standard this year: great beer, friendly staff, decent atmos. I don't like the lack of soft furnishings though, the same as with the dev and the haymakers, as it gives terrible acoustics, which is grating as fuck.

Oh, LOL @ wrongfellow btw. You paint a vividly hilarious scene. No doubt I would've felt murderous too had I been there. I did pop in last year for the first time in years; it had deteriorated significantly and I vowed never to return while that nob was running the show.
