TV Show of the Year: I only watched Dr Who and Red Dwarf this year. Both of them were not quite as shit as the last series, but not outstanding in any way. Therefore I'll nominate the Olympic Opening Ceremony, even though I only watched half of it. At least Torchwood wasn't on again.
Food of the Year: Lemon Drizzle Cake, especially the one from the cafe on Ely High Street.

Person of the Year: Struggling to think of anyone. I guess I'll go for Wiggo's TdF victory. Honorable mention for that US pastor who did that switch and bait speech about gay marriage. Generally the year's been a bit of a letdown for people doing brilliant things.
Disappointment of the Year: No massive bomb in the VIP box at the Olympics.
C*nt of the Year: It's a toss(er)-up between Gove / most of the US Rep hopefuls, but especially Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin.
Word of the Year: cunt
WANner of the Year: troll.
Venue of the Year: The All New Portland Arms, just for the excitement of watching the renovations happen.
TV Show of the Year: Difficult choice between Game of Thrones 1&2 and Sons of Anarchy. Both a bit trashy.
Food of the Year: Is this a new category? I had a nice bit of gurnard recently.
Game of the year: Skyrim, only had enough free time to start playing in earnest this year, so it still counts.

Is this a new category?

Yes. A few years back it was all best new band, best album, best gig and so on but nowadays WAN people don't seem to be very interested in talking about music anymore (as shown by the mild apathy to "band of the year" so far).

So I thought we needed to vote for something else. Most people like eating food right?

I just find it tricky to be definitive about a favourite band. I don't have favourites otherwise the bands get upset and take it out on each other.

I think people of WAN still do like music, it's just that many of them have developed more obscure tastes to the point that most people haven't heard of anything so they don't bother talking about it. Music has changed an awful lot in the last 5 years and I think a lot more people make it quietly at home now it is so much easier to do so and share it online. So following this or that national band isn't quite as important as it used to be, it's more about getting involved yourself, listening to your friends and hearing a lot of interesting stuff from all over the world you just wouldn't have come across in 2004. It's nice, but everything is much smaller scale.
