Peter von Hornby

I reckon there must be at least one other person on this forum who has, at some point, had to share a house with the infamous Peter von Hornby. Anyone got any good stories? Is he still in Cambridge?

He was a guy I shared a house with, once. If you met him, you'd remember him.

You would have to be very, very hungry before Peter von Hornby would seem appetising.

That's the fella.

He told me once why he had decided to adopt the name Peter von Hornby. It was an amalgamation of the names of his two idols: Ludwig von Beethoven and A. S. Hornby, author of the Oxford Advanced Learners' English Dictionary.

He spent hours every week adjusting the tracking weight on my record player, in order to achieve perfect sound reproduction. But all his beloved Beethoven records came from charity shops and were scratched beyond recognition.

After a couple of months in our house, he moved a piano into the living room. He spent three hours a day practising scales, very slowly, and I never saw him touch the black notes once.

He wrote an extraordinary self-published book called My Life in Cambridge. I wish I could find my copy.

He was a member of some evangelical Christian church, and used to invite them round sometimes for Bible readings. I like to think they saw it as a test of their faith.

I don't miss him, but I am curious as to what became of him.

Came across this old post about Peter Von Hornby as I recently (2017) shared a house with someone by the name of Peter (originally from Taiwan) who is somehow connected to this name in the past. This person has very interesting quirks like PVH, came across the book, which is out of print, and I now seem to have a mystery to solve.

Can anyone help me connect the dots together?
