Between Chesterton and Ditton Meadow....
Hope they agree to go ahead with the bridge with no further delays.

Apparently, it won't go ahead because cyclists don't pay a tax that nobody's paid since 1936. Or so one of the clever people who comments on CN stories says, anyway.

Maybe the next time a driver shouts "Pay some road tax on that thing!" you should reply with "Pay some window tax on that thing!"

That's actually a really good idea!

I've found the response has to be varied depending on the location - if we're at a stop, or come to one soon afterwards, I like to give them both barrels of the 'You realise 'road tax' doesn't exist...' argument. But if we're in motion I've recently found that simply pandering to their lack of understanding and using the same language with a 'I do, for the car I left at home!' works quite well and frequently stumps them from further response.

Other fun responses I've found, dependent on the situation and behaviour of the driver include: 'Get fucked you absolute cunt!' and 'Why don't you try and think of another scenario when would you consider it acceptable to shout at a stranger in public and then shut the fuck up'.

There's also, from the other perspective, a bat-shit crazy woman who I often see cycling at speed through every red light and junction on the morning commute from Histon to Castle Hill who, when someone shouts out at her for almost getting herself killed/causing an accident, chases down the perp and screams obscenities at them until they give up trying to explain she's in the wrong or simply need to turn off.

I sent an email in support of the bridge and got this today:

Thank you for sending us your comments on the aboveplanning application. I can confirm that they will be taken into account when a decision is made by the County Council’s Planning Committee in due course. Once we have a precise date at which this application will be considered by our Planning Committee, I will write to you again to set out how you may register to speak.
On the basis that a number of the comments received inrelation to this application actually relate to the wider Chisholm Trail, rather than just to this application, I thought that it would be useful to clarify the following to avoid any misunderstanding:
(1)The Bridge application (C/5005/16/CC) will be determined by the County Council’s Planning Committee as it is not a City Deal project and therefore does not fall within the terms of reference for the Joint Development Control Committee (JDCC). However, the Chisholm Trail is a City Deal Project which means that it will be determined by JDCC; (2)It is noted that a petitionhas beensubmitted to the City Council in relation to the Bridge application (C/5005/16/CC) to allow a Development Control Forum (DCF) meeting to take place ahead of JDCC, whichis not relevant to the County Council’s Planning Committee. Therefore whilst the information

contained within the petition will be considered when a decision is made by the County Council, a DCF will not take place. The lead petitioner will be contacted by the City Councilto explain this further; (3)Comments made on the Bridge application (C/5005/16/CC) will only be considered in the determination of that application and will not becarried across to any other application, which includes the Chisholm Trail application. Therefore if you wish your points to be considered in relation to the Chisholm Trail application, these will need to be submitted before the close of the consultation period; (4)The consultation period for Chisholm Trail application(C/5007/16/CC)is due to close next Wednesday (28 September 2016). However, to ensure that there is time for you to consider whether you wish to also make representations in relation to the Chisholm Trail application following this update notification, we are prepared to extend the consultation period from 28 September 2016 until Friday 7 October 2016.
I hope that this clarifies the situation. However, if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
