psst, know of any sneaky streams?

It shouldn't be hard to find one, or you can watch the last three or so hours of each stage on ITV4 which I think is available online too.

So has Wiggins retired? Who are the other Brits in the race

Published by foolscap (not active) at 11:17am on Mon 4th July 2016.

Wiggins is retired from racing at TdF level, but still puts in the odd appearance here and there on track and in time trials. Brits in the race are Cav (who won the stage today; from the Isle of Man, riding for South African team Dimension Data*), Stephen Cummings (Merseyside; Dimension Data), Chris Froome (whom some would argue is actually Kenyan, having been born there, with British team Team Sky), Geraint Thomas (from Cardiff; also Sky), Luke Rowe (Cardiff, Sky), Ian Stannard (Chelmsford; Sky), Adam Yates (from Bury; Aussie team Orica-Bike Exchange) and Daniel McLay (born in New Zealand, but British nationality; Fortuneo-Vital Concept).

*Interestingly (if you're as obsessive over this sort of stuff as I am), Dimension Data are providing real-time data and analytics on each rider's performance this year using data gathered from the devices that look a bit like "ass-saver" mudguards poking out from the saddles.

i haven't checked how Contador did today as i've been revising for a final exam tomorrow. what an awesome start for Cavendish.

I think Contador finished up something like 1'42" down overall, which isn't where he wanted to be but also isn't anything he can't make up in the mountains (provided he doesn't have any more crashes, of course). Not sure how many more stages Cav can win this year as it's quite a mountainous parcours, though there are a few more opportunities for him (including the final stage into Paris).

Personally, I think Quintana's going to win this one - but Froome's definitely got a good chance for a third overall General Classification. You never know, though; still two-and-a-half weeks to go!

Today's Totes Amazeballs Tour Fax...

It's Jean-René Bernaudeau's 60th birthday. Bernaudeau, who is now the directeur sportif of the Direct Énergie team (nice black kit with yellow circles on it) once hilariously claimed that "dope controls in cycling were a breach of the freedom of work," which he probably regrets now.

The only interesting thing I've learned from the stats pages on the main site is no riders have abandoned le tour yet. I find the layout more confusing than previous years as to where the peleton and breakaways are.

God, I hate stats with a passion. Cycling stats why? At least cycling is brilliant unlike baseball, and we all know what anoraks those fans can be.
Stats no.

Sad to see Contador drop out due to illness - this is almost certainly his final Tour.

i blame Froome (for no good reason whatsoever).

Probably sneaked into Contador's hotel room and rubbed a pair of sweaty shorts in his face, thus forcing him to inhale a virus. Which, if it happened, wouldn't be the most unusual method of cheating ever utilised at the Tour.

i can imagine something like that happening back in the day when they rode lumpen rustbuckets compared to today's bikes and had to carry around all their own spares.

will Yates win or has Froome got stronger Team Sky support?
