Venues in Cambridge

Hey y'all

I need a venue for about 100+ and preferably selling booze but food not needed.

any ideas my dears?

The Tivoli would've been perfect had it not been singed.

CUSC, Mill Lane? home to Octoberfest and the Winter Beer fest

work on the Tivoli is coming along, all the scaffold is down apart from some next door at The Boathouse, front entrance still boarded

About ten years ago, someone or other was looking for a venue along Mill Road for some sort of event. I suggested Bharat Bhavan, the Hindu community centre, just because I'd heard it could be hired. Whoever it was that was asking went along to find out and the people who run the place wanted something ridiculously cheap for it, like about £5 per hour or something like that, but for some reason or another it wasn't suited to the event.

That could be a possibility.

Is the function room at the Boathouse big enough? Or what about the Portland?

Funnily enough I don't think there is a function room at the boathouse now because the stairs seem to have disappeared, unless there's another room I'm not aware of.

I noticed the Tiv was looking different including the removal of the signage which made me think weatherspoons had given up on it, which in turn made me a bit sad. Even though it was a new pub it was totally an old man's boozer and i loved it for that.

I wonder if the Hindu place would let us bring our own booze in, but then there's the aggro of cleaning up after ourselves which is an arse.

did the err Romsey Labour club get knocked down, gentrified by some bankers or what

i've often wondered what the inside of this place is like, obviously not being social i doubt they'd let the likes of me in...

The Boathouse function room is absolutely still there, or it was last week. The Black Fen Folk Club has moved there every Sunday.

Yesterday they left the door of the Tivoli open so I had a peek inside as I walked past.Downstairs looks much the same, though blackened and covered with builders dust. What gives it away though is the sunlight streaming down on the ground floor from the top. Basically they've removed the entire top floor and roof, leaving the side walls standing. I presume that they have removed the unsafe parts and intend to rebuild later. But the venue clearly won't be opening anytime soon...

oh... that's a shame, I liked the low light, relative anonymity, and nod to older pub design/layout unlike every new pub that seems fitted in the same light wood and hard lighting. about the only thing I thought they didn't make much of (compared to The Boathouse next door) was the view/access to the river.

"light wood and hard lighting"

Aye. I do hate supping a pint in what feels like a branch of fucking Ikea.

Agree entirely. I hate it when pubs have a refit which completely destroys any character that they had.

That said, I went to the Ragedund last night. They have recently had a refit which works really well.

I've been meaning to pop in there to make sure they haven't ruined the place. Now I don't have to. SR saved me having to go to the pub. Thanks SR!

The Rad. Been in once since the refit. The place has been ruined. Not only doesn't the space work, they changed the beer to summat horrible. Other than when attending Cambridge Illuminti meetings there, I won't be going back.

Do they still have that 'NO MOBILE PHONES' sign?

I think they might have done, but I wouldn't swear to it. Personally I think the mobile free zone is still a good idea.
