Thirsty?

Anyone else tried it out? I dunno how a food van can be there for hours on the number of people I've seen around. Hot Numbers it ain't

Ate there on Thursday night and the placed was packed. Really good food (different vans on different nights, so can't generalise). Buy the food outside and get your drinks from Thirsty. They charge £5.00 corkage on each bottle. Sounds a lot but I'd say that a £9.00 bottle of wine coming out at £14.00 is still better value than the same wine in a restaurant.

It's not for night out though. A single course from the van, a glass or two of wine and it's time for the off.

I don't think it's supposed to be Hot Numbers, though they do serve HN coffee. It's a wine sellers with tables for food.

I'm no wine buff so have no idea if they have a sensational range, great wines or what. Nice place though and all part of the smartening up of Mitcham's Corner. Well overdue!

Whats this? Is it a new restaurant?

It's a wine sellers. Some evenings it has food trucks outside, a different one each night. It doesn't have a kitchen, so no, not a restaurant.

Where on Mitcham's Corner is it?

Where the old wine shop used to be...Wine Rack and then Threshers.

Nice idea. Not sure how much time I'd want to spend sitting at a table on Mitcham's Corner watching heavy traffic though.

I thought that too until I went. The chrome van was between me the the traffic, so no problem there. And if you're inside turned away from the window, you're in a nice environment anyway.

It does rather show the benefits of changing the traffic use of MC...it'd be great to have that bit pedestrianised.

Give it a go. Four of us went last week and I was perhaps the least impressed. But for what it is, it's cheap and fun. Four main courses for about £28.00 and £15.00 for the drinks. REALLY good food the night we went - as in stuff that we'd be unlikely to prepare and cook at home.

It's not for a night out though - one course and a couple of drinks and it's home time. Might be one of those places you go when you cba to cook and want a bit of a treat.

I interrupt this thread to bring you a message from the management at Thirsty (not me incidentally - this isn't going to turn into the legendary Russells thread, whereby various employees of the business will try, and ultimately fail, humiliatingly, to skew the discussion ...).

"Thanks from Sam & the team. We welcome all feedback - looking forward to fine-tuning the place over the coming weeks. We are having a wine/beer + charcuterie tasting with local Sedgwick’s Charcuterie peeps tomorrow (Tuesday) night. Plus also check out our craft beer growler system - refillable 1 or 2 litre bottles of craft beer from keg - we're the only guys in East Anglia with this fab new kit!"

They seem to be competing with Bacchanalia who have a greater range, with the added food option, and other tasting events.

What annoyed me the time I went in was something on their board about no hard sell or whatever, but for more than half the time I was there browsing that's exactly what I got. I bought something but it definitely put me off just dropping in and browsing again. Five pounds might be fine among a group but would make no sense on my own. I guess like the Beer Festival people will pay in the evening just for a different venue.

It might attract those who don't like the pub atmosphere and want somewhere to go with a group of friends but like every new cafe and pub seemed a bit full of itself. I don't know if Threshers in that spot was failing or the company as a whole.
