The laughter type plot shows clearly that LOL is the preferred choice of the older, wiser and more refined laugher.

Now, I took that to mean that kids might be seeing "LOL" as something that only sad old people do, like wearing flat caps, listening to Pink Floyd, smoking cigarettes or voting in elections.
No doubt some hipster kids will revive it soon and it will become cool again, like wearing bow ties.

I heard about this but am confused if the poll was on Facebook because: a) who are not using Facebook? the kids; and b) who are not using lol on Facebook? the kids. So maybe lol is still popular among older people on Facebook but then who completed their poll? Oh and you know what poll sounds like, without the p?

Lots of kids are on Facebook, all my young (15, 16) year old relatives are. They just use it as one of many means of communication. They post things like "Skype me". They never say "LOL" though.
