Mystery object

Friends of mine recently bought a house in France and found four of these. Anyone have any idea what they might be?

WTFizzit

OK, so you might have more chance of telling me what it is if I upload a photo.

Oh, and by the way - it's not a sledge. Too small and not strong enough. Also, not a very good design for a sledge if you look a little more closely.

A handy rocking coffee table sled?

A sledge shammer?

Looks like a sledge.

Do you know what it is JT? Or is this an appeal to WAN to try and find out?

If it is the former then I guess it is something to do with bikes, possibly a stand or a rack. If it's the second then I say it is a sledge. :p

Was the house a secret production facility for the top secret world war one tanks for guinea pigs that was discovered and abandoned before the timber slatted sides, roller skates and lasers could be fixed on?

Or a secret production facility for the top secret world war one tanks for guinea pigs that was discovered and abandoned before the timber slatted sides and lasers could be fixed on that didn't need roller skates because they were intended for use in surprise attacks on gerbil encampments at the bottom of snowy slopes?

Nope, I don't know what it is. It's definitely not a sledge, though - too small and too flimsy (plus the flat section between the "runners" would dig into the snow, making it fairly useless.)

Is it a table top for a mega mix?

I think it's a French sledgée du vin.

This is an accessory designed to hold your wine glass while sledging. You place it on the wooden platform at the bottom and let it slide down the snowy hill next to you, allowing you to sip from it in a refined manner as you descend.

The upper wooden panel is there to protect your glass from the falling snow.

I think it might be loom related.

I think it could be too, BB.

I thought that you could maybe lay it on the side and use it to store walking sticks and umbrella's (sorted by three types). I did a google image search for "French wooden umbrella stand" (or similar) and found THIS amazing thing. Now I think JT's object is a stand to pose mythical creatures.

Hmmm. Searching for "French wooden loom" does appear to bring up a number of similar sledge shaped objects. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/291172524894-0-1/s-l1000.jpg

'Obviously' part of a Beehive Centre/Great Northern mainline playset, this being the structure on the railway line between ASDA/Cromwell Road flats.

SR, I'm afraid your latest google search appears to have brought up a picture of yet another sledge...

Mystery solved - it's a bed-warmer. A metal box containing hot coals would be placed on the flat wooden bit inside the frame, then the whole thing put under the blankets. http://www.silvercollection.it/dictionaryhandwarmer.html

I often wonder how the Victorians manage to avoid burning to death on a daily basis. :)

"How de fuck did you find that out."

My mate who bought the house asked an old person who lives in the village.
