Bike shops in Cambridge

collar

Are there any? But seriously you guys, where would you WANnies recommend for a good deal and sexy service? I'm not a proper cyclist, just want something cheap for getting to work. And sometimes back.

Define cheap?

Does your work do the Cycle to Work scheme?

http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/

If so, that is well worth it (you gett he bike and then pay for it in installments, less tax and NI, which saves you about a third).

This might allow you to get a better bike, as in something that might last a bit longer.

Bike shop recommendations - I like University Cycles on Victoria Avenue and Bicycle Ambulance in Park Street Car Park.

Bike to Work is indeed a good option. You don't need to spend the full whack on the bike, so you can get a bike for, say, £500 and have the rest to buy cycling clothing and a helmet, if you're a believer in the worthiness of helmets. I don't know if you can use it to pay for a year's insurance too, but it could be worth finding out in this city.

I like the cycle shop on Bridge Street, opposite Magdalene College. As is proper, it is staffed by a grumpy man in his fifties who wears greasy blue overalls and does his work so absurdly cheaply it's impossible to figure out how he makes a living.

Camcycles on Mill Road is very good. Just along from trhat , the gold shop next to the butchers are selling cheap bike £30-60 quid at the mo.

I'd love to work out how you could do TEN MILLION POUNDS worth of Third-Party damage on a pushbike. Some kind of James Bond/Bourne Identity-style chase where you sideswipe around about 10,000 market stalls and wipe out all those people's livelihoods, I suppose.

Since Bruce Willis is getting on a bit, and there is a vague resemblance maybe Lance Armstrong can take on the Die Hard franchise?

I know these are not bike shops but I saw a bike in Asda for the princely sum of 99 GBP if you're looking really cheap and want to get your hands dirty doing your own servicing. There were also a few in Homebase around the 250-500 mark.

"Up to £10M third party liability insurance"

I reckon that's a hook and refers to BC's racing insurance rather than to the policies most people using the Bike to Work scheme would be interested in - though I do know people who have used the scheme to buy bikes they've then raced. Do something a bit daft at a race and cause an accident that results in several riders crashing into spectators and you could easily end up getting sued for a lot. Sometimes top professional riders enter fairly small races too, either for training at the start of the season or because the race holds memories for them (for example, it might have been the first one they entered when they were a teenager). If you did something really silly, like stopped in the middle of the road round a blind bend in your local ten-mile time trial and then someone like Mark Cavendish came round the bend at 50kph and sustained a back injury that ended his career, you'd be pretty glad of it too!

As the tandem crashes through yet another market stall, amid a hail of bullets, the terrified reluctant sidekick (played by Richard Ayoade) cries out in terror, "you're nuts!". Cool as a cucumber, Armstrong replies, "nut".

10 million pounds liabilty insurance is a standard figure which is included in all our contracts at work.

I'd always assumed that were someone to be maimed due to an accident then it would take several million to pay for their care for the rest of their life and 10 million is a nice round number.

I think the MINIMUM Public liabilty insurance is one million pounds.

Gene Wilder got memed and didn't get a penny for it. And that lad from lord of the rings.

It's the same with photographers' PLI - it's always either 1, 3 or 5 million.
