The Bike Bus

https://www.scambs.gov.uk/bikebus-explorer

I got this yesterday to take my bike out to the villages and then cycle back via Wimpole Hall.

I wish that this ran more often than just Sundays / Bank Holidays and that it went further out and to more routes than a handful of villages. Still, it's a start.

Yesterday I was the only person with a bike to use it so I get the impression that hardly anyone knows about it. Therefore I am putting the link up here.

If you want to much further out than local villages, there's also this bike bus: http://www.bike-express.co.uk

Villages:
Are they selected on a weekly basis or does it follow a set route?

No, set route only.

I suppose you can always get the train with your bike. It's still a bit rubbish if you live out near or want to go to Linton or Haverhill or places that aren't near a station. Or if there are rail replacement buses, which there often are on bank holidays.

True story: I once decided to bike to a far off town and get the train back. When I got to my destination I found that the trains were cancelled and replaced with buses so I couldn't get my bike back, meaning I had no choice but to cycle all the way back again. I wouldn't have minded so much but before leaving I had actually checked with national rail enquiries to see if the trains were running, and they incorrectly told me that all the trains were fine.

I wrote NRE a furious complaint letter, which they never replied to. *shakes fist*
