Short stay parking at the train station

When I'm getting a train I like to go at a quiet time to pick up my tickets from the machine.

Last time I went it was very confusing with building works and I couldn't see if there was anywhere currently to stop for 20 minutes like there was before.

Has this changed? Is there currently anywhere I can briefly park?

I don't think there is. It's still very confusing with building works.

Thanks for reminding me I need to go and pick up some tickets.

Under the new government, cars will be banned from Cambridge.

Recently a member of my family noticed that the parking at the station had been removed. The complaining! I've not seen the like since they made it compulsary to wear seat belts in the early 1980's.

Isn't there a contradiction in driving to get a train?
If you are sound enough to get a train, you should take the bus, walk or ride a bike to the station.
Village folk should work on local farms, this would solve the congestion caused by village people driving into the city.
They clog the streets and sing bad 70s disco songs.

Before the Beeching cuts no one drove to get a train. Then they closed many of the branch lines assuming that people would drive a little way to the larger stations and get a train from there. Of course, if you had to drive some of the way then you'd continue and drive all the way.

If you read the original post though, Rocket Dog says that they drive to the station to collect their ticket at a quiet time, not necessarily to get a train. This seems perfectly fair enough to me.

I was going to post much the same thing SR but deleted it :-) I think there is a documentary on Beeching which says this.

there should be a train ticket office in the centre of town, and subsidised by the University as they are to blame for it being so far out of town

Hardly anyone had a car when Beeching was slicing up the railways.

There's kind of some short stay parking to the right as you face the station. It was full yesterday though and may be only pick up/ drop off or disabled parking, I didn't look properly. Cycle parking remains a joke. The racks are bad enough but knee deep gravel really makes the experience like nothing else.

I think I stole my comment from someone who must have seen this documentary. :)
