Privatisation of Central Library 3rd Floor - petition to get council to debate

This needs 3000 signatures to secure a full council debate:

This HAS to be fought. I signed this petition a a few days ago and have encouraged friends to do the same. That particular floor of the library is always busy - young and old alike meet and work up there. The proposed closure has come about thanks to an County Council alliance of Tories and UKIP-ers voting together.

That's all you need to know.

Don't suppose anyone has a link explaining what is actually being proposed?

Got an update from the petition today. Still need more signatures to force a proper discussion and public consultation.

So is there a 3,000-signature threshold that guarantees a Full Council Debate - on any topic...?

I've never used the top floor since the rebuild. Much prefer the smaller branches

The central one is my nearest branch at 25 minutes' walk. :-/ It's the top floor I mainly use, especially the Cambridgeshire Collection for various event projects as well as art books etc.

Good question, Miss Regaling ...

I realise now that 38degrees changes the number of signatures needed, so it's always higher than the number of people that have signed (when it was less than 3000 signatures it said that was the number needed, but now it has gone over that it says 4000).

But I'd still be interested to know if there is some kind of threshold for guaranteeing a full council debate. Does anyone know?

I can't find it now, but I think I got that figure of 3000 from twitter rather than 38degrees. It was only about halfway to that when I first looked I think.

Sorry for the derail, are there any pictures of the area around Lion Yard before they demolished it? The CEN have only shown the demolished bit, and new build bit. I've tried to like the refurbished Central Library, maybe if they could put the entrance back on the ground floor...

I've got a few lion yard pics, though they aren't very recognisable, I'll try to dig them out.

Here are quite a few pictures taken immediately before.
