Regional Cities

From http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/X-Factor-auditions-venue-Cambridge-ann... :

Woody Bradbury, a researcher from The X Factor's casting team, said: "This year we want to leave no stone unturned, so we are coming to regional cities like Cambridge to give people who may not have been able to audition before, the chance to have a go! We want to find undiscovered talent."

What makes a city "regional"?

It needs at least two branches of Patisserie Valarie to qualify.

What makes Cambridge a "regional city" is that it was once a seat of government for the Eastern Region (despite the fact that it had poor road and rail access to all of the six constituent county towns and other main towns in the region). What made it a city (despite not having a cathedral) was the magic wand of someone in the Westminster government. If you discount the transient student and academic populations, there isn't much left to warrant its nomination as a "regional city" through a "critical mass" argument.

East Anglia has always been a bit cut off and isolated. Occasionally we raise an army and attack London and then end up being defeated. I think that we need a new Anglian revolutionary. Hereward the Wake and Boudica are getting a bit old fashioned.

Just think in 800 years time they'll name a housing estate after you, Silent....
