Mitcham's Corner

I noticed the other day that they have boarded up the first house on Devil's Island. Are these beautiful houses definitely going to be demolished? I've heard things about a load of student housing being built, is this all definitely going ahead?

Any news, facts or even spurious gossip welcome. Especially links to council or developer information. I've recently moved here and I love the character of the area, it would be such a shame if it was ruined.

It's what I call (forgot it's not in common use) the 3 (?) storey houses opposite the Waterman's pub/ row of shops. Most of them are divided into flats. There are about 10 houses there. They are basically right opposite what used to be the Two Season's shop.

I think there are some big changes planned for this area, the old furniture shop is not empty and they have been pulling down or preparing to pull down the commercial buildings on the right of the Portland Arms.

There is a meeting about Mitcham's Corner at the Portland tonight at 7.30 for anyone who is interested in plans for its redevelopment.

Went by yesterday, looks like they are fixing up a new roof in the middle houses on Alcatraz Island....
Weird thing to do if you were going to demolish the place.

There used to be a Polish woman who lived there, she was fond of Pork Pies. She'd stand in her doorway with a pork pie in her hand.
She'd shout at local people about her life and her desire to consume more pork pies.
Pork Pie Woman is dead now.
The autopsy revealed she was almost entirely composed of pork pie.

Yeah I noticed them doing the roof too. I really hope they are keeping the houses.

As far as I know the area around staples is going, and the old buildings behind the Portland are already being replaced. I am not aware of any plans to change the houses. I will check next time I have time.
