Cherry Hinton Station.

A proposal to reopen Cherry Hinton station was made in 1996, but 70% of residents who responded to a Council questionnaire were against it and a new station was not considered viable at that time.

Interesting -- I know I'm biased but who would vote against a railway station? Maybe the people who lived in the station building etc. I suppose and also depends on the design of the questionnaire.

Reopening of the station was again proposed by Cambridgeshire County Council in May 2013 as part of an infrastructure plan to deal with projected population growth up to 2050.

Also interesting.

Interesting article and maps. I understand the opposition to Cherry Hinton railway station came from nearby residents, who feared the adjoining roads would be swamped with t he parked cars of rail users! It would be a very sensible idea to build a railway station here, with further stations in Tesco Fulbourn car park and at Fulbourn. Maybe even at Teversham, the Sainsbury store at Brook Road and at the proposed Cambridge Lakes leisure site near the Holiday Inn.. There is only 1 train an hour each way at present and the line is very under-utilized. The cost would not be great and it could be in operation within a year!

The platform at fulbourn is still there. They could reopen a halt there for next to nothing.

Fulbourn Station..

Love the Idea Stephen, it would be like a kind of Cambridge Metro . (Ideal to connect to the forthcoming monorail)
