What would you do?

What would you do in this situation? Would you have done as I did and allow the strange lady to give your 5 year old charge money or not?

Myself and 5 year old and 1 year old charge were walking from football club to the the car. The 5 year old picked up a train ticket from the pavement, got very excited about it and said, "Where is this too?". I read, "Anglia Ranger-I don't know". The lady (a regular Cambridge character who is in the process of changing from a man to a woman and so someone I would class as vulnerable) in front of us turned round and explained to us what it was, and then took out another ticket from her purse that she thought my charge would like and also gave him £1 and said to him, "thank you for treating me like a lady". I didn't want to cause a fuss and also showing empathy toward the lady I let my charge accept the money. I also said to my charge, "you only accept money from strangers if myself, mummy or daddy are with you".However when I got home and explained what had happened to his parents they would have preferred my charge to not have accepted the money and said to my charge that he should not accept money from strangers and so I will now abide by this.

I was looking after this young lad in a wheelchair. He could not talk but was very aware of his situation and surroundings. We were out shopping in the Grafton Center when he gestured that he wanted to go into a particular shop, he took me to an isle with a piggy bank and wanted to buy it. He had enough money so he got the piggy. By God when we went outside he started making a wooooing noise and began to shake the piggy bank. People were besides themselves and started pouring money into the boys bank.
I just stood there incredulously at his side while he busked away.
When I told his mother what he done, my how she laughed.
Just goes to show you should never judge a book by it's cover.

It sounds to me Jude_28 that this person was just being nice and would not have dreamed of giving the boy money had you not been there.

I think the same thing too bigmal. It was so funny though as his parents are Indian and both pulled a nasty face when I said the lady was in the process of changing from a man to woman, they just can't comprehend this. In the end the mum said to put the money in the boy's piggy bank. It was funny as well because the my five year old charge couldn't understand the lady's comment 'thank you for treating me like a lady'and he kept on repeating that phrase on the way back to the car. As far as the charge was concerned she was a lsdy.

I was walking back from the doctors last week and this pound coin was bouncing around in my pocket and twanging against my knackers - really irritating and was a reminder why I'm having them chopped off shortly…anyway this delightful child was walking along in front of me………

Seems totally fine to me, you explained they shouldn't take money off anyone when unaccompanied. Though they often don't have a filter and can say embarrassing things, I imagine most kids wouldn't be bothered / notice if they met someone who was transitioning, which is probably refreshing if you're in that situation. It's the adults who are the trouble.

Why was it important that the lady was going through a sex change? Wasn't it the fact she was a stranger, the point? Also why have you pointed out the child's parents are Indian?

There are some issues here.

It's like those ugly headlines that say some thing like POLISH BURGLAR ARRESTED. He was a burglar that's why he was arrested, wasn't it?
