Fish And Chips

Normally I dislike fried foods so it's been a long time since I last eat fish supper. I've been having a craving at the weekend. Is there anywhere in Cambridge worth going and how much does it cost?

Chinese place on Norfolk Street. Really nice chips. I'd take a tenner as not sure how much it will be!

Haverhill have a surprising selection of chippys and none of them stand out as being any good.
They have one as you come iin to Haverhill from Cambridge that hardly give you a chip, one on the High Street that gives you far to many and one on the Parade that does the same but thy taste of nothing special.
Then up in teh Clements EDL sector they have a chippy run by Chineses people who again hardly give you anything

From what I've heard about Haverhill that does not surprise me. Saw my reflection in a bikini earlier - no smiles, no lols, the fish and chips will have to go on hold, not that Cambridge has much and I thought it was a national dish.

Fish 'n' Chick'n is quite good. They have a branch in Bar Hill and one on the Cherry Hinton Road.

I remember being told to go the the chippy in the middle of the Chalkstone estate for the best fish and chips in Haverhill. Mind you that was back in the 80s when the gym club my mum was taking me to was at Samuel Ward upper so it's probably changed a bit since then :-)

The Sea Tree on mill road does a pretty good fish and chips, and has GF options for anyone who can't eat gluten.

The Chinese/chip shop on Norfolk St has recently closed down with a carribean place being opened in its place.

I last went to the one on Chesterton High Street last week. The chips were OK, though they lose points for not doing mushy peas.

No idea what the fish / kebab or sausages were like though. I haven't eaten meat since 1998.

The Mermaid in Chesterton is alright too. The chips, to be honest, are only slightly better than average, but they have a squirty bottle of mint sauce on the counter and chips liberally soaked in mint sauce are amazing.

We got chips from the place opposite the Royal Standard about two years ago and they were nice, which came as a bit of a surprised because a portion bought there about five years ago was inedible - I ate one and gave the rest to a dog, which looked at me as if it was saying "are you fucking having a laugh, mate? I ain't eating that shit."

Chipshops do go through good and bad phases, though, so it might have turned crap again by now.

Top marks to the 'Cod Father' in Barnwell, sizable portions of premium chips at reasonable prices.
