News from Great Shelford

So we'd just opened up today when several police cars suddenly turned up. Turns out McColl's had been robbed. I hope the fact that (once I'd found out from a copper that nobody was hurt, of course) it made my day much better doesn't make me a bad person.

And here's another professional, perfectly proof-read write-up from everybody's favourite local rag...

"A robber stole cash from a shop in Great Shelford early this morning (Saturday).
A man, who staffed believed was carrying a knife, walked into McColls convenient store in Woollards Lane, at 6.15am and demanded staff open the till and give him money.
Police said he then left the store with a “significant amount” of cash, more than £1,000.
A man in his 30s, who lives locally, is currently in police custody on suspicion of robbery."

The first thing I thought when I saw this was 'which member of staff could end up getting fitted up', if it was that sort of place. They aren't of course.

I came out purely to post this and I'm glad to see the news is already on here. Glad to see they're going to do some time now.

That shop seems to be a bit of a hotspot for inside jobs!

According to one employee, to encourage staff to sell more of the £1 chocolate bars they're told to try to sell to every customer the area managers sack one randomly-chosen member of staff every time a store doesn't hit its monthly target. I think if you treat staff like that, you have to expect things like this. I imagine petty pilfering, which pissed-off staff see as a means of revenge, is massive.

If an area doesn't meet its target, do they sack one randomly-chosen area manager?

I'm guessing not.
