Was awesome - TJR's were really good for a first show, bags of potential and Jazz proved he can actually sing :-)

Sing, *AND* tune a geetar. Eventually... hee hee.

Only joking Jazz - I've been there. I enjoyed the gig muchly.

Actually Rob, you might be able to give some advice re: tuning.

The guitar seemed to go massively out when using a capo. When I put it up to the 4th fret it dropped about a semi tone. Anyways of getting rid of this. I've just had it set up too :(

Hey Jazz, this could well be your new friend:

I have one you can try / borrow and see if you get on with it as they're not cheap and not everyone gets on with them.

Also the best tip (IMHO) with capos and chromatic tuners is tune with the capo ON.

Another capo tip is place it close to the higher fret, and not in the middle. This reduces the other classic problem of the capo tension pulling the wound strings sharp.

"The guitar seemed to go massively out when using a capo"

You could learn the chords so that you don't need to cheat, so just transpose the whole song.

I think it depends on how / why you use them as to whether it's "cheating" or not. I know of a few players who are considered to be "quite good" that used them all the time ;-) To me, it's kind of the same rationale for "cheat" open tunings - you can be pretty sure that you're going to get different voicings to the other guy(s) who are playing standard tuning without capos.

I admit they do have a bit of a negative association with folky singery songwritery types though and lately, I've stopped using them. Mind you, all my new stuff is now in the key of E...

Hey Sam, too long in fact - I'm good thanks!

this will be tomorrow and I've taken robs advice and purchased a new overpriced capo. Lets hope it works.
