where is play.com?

my girlfriend needs to find it for an interview and they've said "cambridge business park" but where is it?

It was actually quite hard to find, they *almost* managed to keep the information secret from Google.

Play.com,First Floor, Newton House, Cambridge Business Park, CB4 0WZ , Cambridge

I think... please don't hold me responsible if it's wrong though.

Wish you girlfriend good luck. Does she get a staff discount? ;-)

hehe - I actually tried phoning you GM to ask - she's turned round and gone home now, so your advice is obviously spot on! The application was online with no address, some guy phoned and just said "cambridge business park", you'll find it! Gah.
Why on earth would google hide it?

Thanks v much, chrishammi

it is a crappy job working in that call centre but if you stick it out, apply for a buyers job and get over to the other office, life is sweet. took me 6 months and i couldn't be happier now. apart from earning a living from playing music, this is in my top 5 jobs i reckon. all the free music you want, gigs, award shows etc.

Published by harvey_dangerous at 11:19am on Mon 26th September 2005.

I was a music buyer at amazon.com for 6 months. that sounds fun... but all it really involved was buying huge quantities of albums from distributors. Its not like i got to listen to tunes and decide if they were good enough for amazon to stock them. amazon stock everything afterall...

i have heard working at play is a bit shocking tho. in the CS department anyway...

dealing with emails such as: "where's my copy of Chaz and Dave Knees-up Jamboree Bag volume 2? I ordered it all of 3 minutes ago etc..."

good luck to yer gf tho Jody!

it's real call centre stuff with ridiculous deadlines. Horrible work. Jules from Lounge, Mick from Broken Family Band, Do Not Conform have all worked there too and i'm sure they'll testify to it.

Ahem.

Nah, it's not that bad. Certainly not on the evening team. It's the easiest, most laid-back job she'll ever do. I get paid to do very little. Beautiful.

Working in the 'other' office would be preferable though. Yes.

Published by Do Not Conform at 1:10pm on Mon 26th September 2005.

The other office isn't all that hot either, more money but dour atmosphere by and large.

Published by crushingdeath at 1:16pm on Mon 26th September 2005.

I think she's given up the ghost, not what she wants to do anyway. thanks for all the advice peeps, I shall miss all your banter when I go non-pc in 2 weeks...

Published by at 1:29pm on Mon 26th September 2005.

You shouldn't have listened to it all. If you're on the evening team it's sweet.

Crushing Death; I keep getting your name coming up under 'notes' on peoples accounts. How long were you at Play? Where are you working now?

Published by Do Not Conform at 11:46am on Tue 27th September 2005.

I was there for about a year and a half in total, on and off. I'm temping now, and it's suuuuuuucks.

'does anyone know where play.com advertise vacancies?'
Without wishing to sound patronising you could try calling 01223 395395 & asking for HR. Used to be a girl called Debbie but don't think she's still there. Alternatively I believe Meridian recruitment on Regent Street used to do their recruiting & may well be doing so again so try calling them and asking for Katherine. They're all very helpful there in my experience.

we've got 4 buying jobs going here at Play - we're based on the Vision Park in Histon.

1 x Music (campaign) buyer
1 x Assistant Games buyer

Give me a shout if anyone is interested!

Do they have any incredibly well-paid part-time jobs (1 day a week?) that let you arse around on WAN and listen to good music?

Nope!

I DJ'd their Xmas party last year - Huge Amounts Of Money were spent on that, I was one of the lowest paid at that party... raffle prizes included 42" plasma TV's and X-Box 360's.
