I went to Toys R Us last week. It is full of Action Man, Barbie, Star Wars, Lego, and Thomas the Tank Engine. Everything was from the 1980's or before - stuff from my childhood or my parents time.
I am wondering: Don't children have a culture of their own anymore? Or are toy designers and children's entertainers so lazy that they just reuse stuff from 30 years ago?

Not that there's anything WRONG with today's children enjoying Dangermouse, but I am convinced that it was this sort of mentality which means I missed Punk, Acid house and Psychedelia and instead got sodding BRITPOP.

I thought it was Danger Mouse from Gnarls Barkley for a minute.

Ha! So did I - no wonder I couldn't work out what Rob was on about.

Now I've got Smiley Faces as my earworm.

T'Cha! Discuss Barkley all you want. This is the thin edge of the wedge people. If this retro nonsense doesn't stop then we'll be back to cock fighting as entertainment by 2050. George Lucas will have remade Star Wars 354 times and he will own all the wealth of the entire planet. Everyone else will live in malnourished poverty and have to beg for scraps of food at his "greedo shot first" mansion. ;)

I've never ever heard any kids in the playground mentioning Danger Mouse. I wonder if this is one of those shows that's targeted squarely at nostalgic parents. The kids are all into Ben 10 and Star Wars The Clone Wars. Though God knows why, Clone Wars is monumentally dull and completely incomprehensible.

My children invented a fantastic game the other day. It was called David Beckham. It involved them taking it in turns to get into the paddling pool with all their clothes on.

I see. Whenever I was forced to watch something either of my parents loved as kids (like say The Damnbusters or Buck Rogers) I usually found it very dull and a chore to sit through. Though the "You WILL see it to the end and you WILL enjoy it!" attitude probably didn't help.

I checked with my three boys this morning - Danger Mouse is not on their agenda (though my eldest does like Gnarls a bit). Sorry Rob, you're just, like, so uncool.

Phew, todays Kids don't like Dangermouse. I can sleep soundly now.
