It's surreal who appears in the Haymakers nowadays!

If it was Mungo Jerry I'd definitely fly back.

Well the Haymakers is a venue now, rather than a boozer with tribute bands...

yeah I've been following. It must be nice to have another space to work with.

Yep. Lovely working with a venue with car park, working PA and decent sized stage. Good step up for when bands outgrow the Portland.

Maybe some ventilation could be the next addition. Was blimmin hot in there for that Delays gig

Yeah, agreed. I think there's various plans for refurbing that are afoot.

The Haymakers seems promising, the sound seemed pretty good, having the bar in the same room etc, but the area which you can actually see the band from is tiny (maybe 30-40 people) and im 6ft 5.

For a lot of people that's 20 more than the number that could see in the Soul Tree.

HTM, keep your eyes peeled. I know all sorts of improvement plans have been discussed.

I hadn't been to the Haymakers in years until the Delays gig last week, and thought it was a pretty decent venue.

It's not perfect (I can't think of a venue that is), but yeah, it's decent. It sells draught beer, it has a stage you can fit a band on comfortably, bands can park outside, the PA works and work is constantly on going to improve it. Having worked in gigs around here for 9 years and especially in the 6 years since the Boat Race shut, it's filling a gap that has been sorely missing for a long time.

it's a bar with a venue, not a venue with a bar. if they had a physically separate area for the venue (a la portland) then I would be more inclined to pay interest. fair play to them though.

Plenty of places used as music venues don't have a separate bar. That's not unusual. That said being pedantic ;-) -

Venue:

a. The scene or setting in which something takes place; a locale

So really a music venue is literally anywhere music is put on. The Hopbine is a music venue for example.

for sure. that's why I value the places that do.

bar = locals, people chatting
venue = people there for the music

my personal preference is for the latter (on account of how my evening out are frequently organised around live music!)

edit: to clarify, I started replying before your edit :p

:)

Well for the gigs I do at the Haymakers, people have to pay to get in, so are there for the music, so I rest my case :0)

heh. I spaced out on the delays, otherwise may well have wandered along.

afraid I'll pass on Carlos... unto each their own :)

Hopefully there will be something you'll like soon. Got a few interesting things up my sleeve...

Yep, two tickets on re-sale. We've been very hot on touting (check Ebay!) and we've agreed to resell tickets for people rather than them get sold off for £40.
