YAY! I saw a link to a Nottingham show yesterday and was discussing this last night in the pub as some bunch of yahoo's rehearsed their gay indie rock disco in the backroom!

Less than 7 days away, here's a bit from Stewart Lee on the new Brokaw/ Farina duo record

"In the 1990s, Geoff Farina’s Karate daringly brought jazzy chords and diminished sevenths to a post-rock scene that didn’t want them, while Chris Brokaw’s all-purpose playing is heard everywhere from the Velvets-inspired singer-songwriter Steve Wynn’s backing band to his distant tenure with the glacially paced Codeine. Here, the pair sit down with their acoustics and knock out a set of familiar folk-blues standards that, while it breaks no new ground, demonstrates admirable levels of consummate artistry, good taste and obvious musical chemistry. The Angel’s Message to Me feels like the duo just struck up in the corner at the tail end of the perfect party.

Mere days away, Check out some reviews of their album

http://www.adequacy.net/2010/03/chris-brokaw-and-geoff-farina-the-ange...

which calls their set "positively joyful – but crucially not cheesy – campfire strummers"

wherein Stewart Lee says the record "feels like the duo just struck up in the corner at the tail end of the perfect party."

wise words.

Really looking forward to this. Any idea of stage times?

I had guest list for Frank Turner, Chuck Ragan & Crazy Arm in Norwich but even though temptation was high after seeing Chuck play in Leeds last week... I can't miss this. Looks like a potentially perfect Monday night show... check out this!

Nice. :-)

I've got quiet/acoustic gig edge.......There better not be any irritating people who decide to talk loud whilst they play. I WILL have to say something and then I WILL hoof them out if they continue to be disrespectful (or get Ian to do it). ;-)

"There better not be any irritating people who decide to talk loud whilst they play"

You are asking for respect from people... tall fucking order.

Published by aracoonsfarts at 1:43pm on Mon 22nd March 2010.

It always seems that people are usually pretty quiet and respectful towards quiet music in Cambridge, you pessimistic buggers.

So, this was actually really enjoyable. Shame not more people got to see it. Both Brokaw and Farina were great guitarists I thought.

Published by barksdale at 2:19pm on Tue 23rd March 2010.

Agreed barksdale - a fantastic night and excellent value.

Published by whiffin at 7:32pm on Tue 23rd March 2010.

The guitar playing was beautiful... I tink if there had been more people they may have played for longer, but the last few songs really raised the bar.

Gigs like that at the Portland would benefit from tables and chairs in the room... candles on tables.

Published by aracoonsfarts at 7:36pm on Tue 23rd March 2010.

Agreed, i should have laid out the chairs before the show started, I had hoped a few more bodies would fill the room though !
