Paypal / ebay feedback question

An ebay seller keeps emailing me to ask I leave ebay feedback because otherwise paypal won't receive his funds. Is this true - a new initiative that paypal have introduced - that they won't give anyone the money until feedback is left? If that is true then isn't that a bit rubbish?

I often don't get time to leave feedback, mostly because a number of years ago the feedback "forum" was blocked at work, because it has the word "forum" in the url.

Utter rubbish. He's probably worried because you can't leave negative feedback now and the equivalent of negative now is not leaving any at all.

Feedback includes payment so he can hardly demand feedback before the money transaction has been completed!

Ebay really tests my faith in human nature.

No, the SELLER is demanding feedback for something I BOUGHT. He's sent me the item and all is OK, I just can't leave feedback at work so it is fairly difficult. I want to know if it is true (as he claims) that paypal won't give him his money unless I leave him feedback.

It WASN'T true last time I sold something on ebay a few months ago, but paypal are inherently useless and it wouldn't surprise me at all.

Rob, the seller is talking cock. Don't worry about it.

It wasn't very expensive, but quite small. I'll try and leave feedback sometime.

You've got to hand it to paypal, they've managed to become EVEN MORE useless. Not everyone leaves feedback and this means that anyone who sells on ebay will be left hanging on for 21 days.

I think that is not true. If you've been sent the item then they must have received payment. I bought a white skirt last week that was a lot lighter (as in I will need to make or buy an underskirt to wear it) so haven't left feedback. No one has said anything.

There is a peculiar arrangement some people have where payment isn't instant, maybe because they have an account which hasn't any funds, then after a couple of weeks if they haven't added money to the account the bank rejects the payment. Then paypal reject a pending payment. I found this out the hard way (as stupidly I'd already sent the item), fortunately it wasn't an expensive item but I was quite annoyed

It is true. As you can see from the link posted above, if you don't have many transactions the funds can be received but "on hold" so that they cannot be withdrawn without positive feedback.

Ah okay, there was some ebay email a while back but I probably ignored it as I've been on there since I've had a PC pretty much, and still have 100% feedback

What Simon says is right but there is a 'qualifying' period which require confirmed details of bank account/feedback or something like that etc. before PayPal will release payment. Can't remember the exact details and can't be arsed to check. Get off your arse and do the feedback, it won't hurt you if the deal's ok FFS.

I have to say i completely agree with this...

Yeah I will. Though it's a complete pain for me because I can't leave feedback at work and ebay's feedback forum makes the computer at home go incredibly slowly so it takes ages.

Is it totally obligatory to leave feedback? If the feedback forum is slow then for a small item I wouldn't bother.

It's not obligitory at all, I usually don't bother for the reasons I explained above. More usually I leave all my feedbacks all at once in blocks every two months or so because it's easier. Now it seems that people are inconvenienced if you don't leave it one at a time immediately. Yet again Paypal are rubbish.

If you are a seller then in general you would leave feedback, unless the item was really below expectations in quality, material, function etc but still worked, because you know that if no one left you feedback as a seller you would sell a lot less.

Argh.

Spam leads to angry Wrongfellow; angry Wrongfellow leads to deleted accounts.

Deleted accounts lead in turn to angrier Wrongfellow, because he hates feeling the need to do this.

Sooner or later, this process is going to erupt in a chain reaction which will only end when I have deleted every single post on the entire site.

Funnily enough, I put some stuff on eBay yesterday for the first time in ages. King of posts I know. Lol.

Please find below my feedback regarding the stuff I recently bought from Silent Rob via the popular online marketplace known as Ebay.

Once payment was confirmed, I received the stuff in good condition and in prompt time. It was appropriately packaged and addressed to the correct address. All customs paperwork was completed correctly.

Sadly the received stuff failed to live up to my expectations. I feel that when a seller advertises stuff for sale on Ebay, they make an implicit representation that the advertised stuff consists of stuff that someone would actually want to buy. I thereby entered into a contract with Silent Rob for the delivery of said stuff, fully expecting that the stuff I received would turn out to be worth the money I paid for it.

Like, diamond rings, rare Jimi Hendrix first pressings, that kind of stuff.

Sadly, the stuff I received turned out to consist in large part of old local newspapers that had been used to clean up his daughter's vomit. Some of this stuff had been stuffed into an empty Pringles container, which could potentially have been of some use if it was not full of mouldy vomit. In addition to this, the stuff comprised a handful of banana peels, the smashed-up remains of a 1920's-era gramophone, and a small vial of methylmercury which as I'm sure you're aware is one of the most toxic kinds of stuff known to modern science.

TL;DR: DO NOT BUY STUFF FROM SILENT ROB. [-1]

Slander! They were full bananas, only a bit brown and squidgy. Not banana peels. How dare you accuse me of being tight enough to only send banana peels! Lol.

This reminds me of the total fucking bastard who bought a set of mountain bike disc brakes off me on Ebay, then put in a claim saying I'd sent him a cardboard box full of crap*.

Ebay took his side and refunded the money**.

*Not actual crap - rusty old nails and stuff.

**I did in fact send him the disc brakes.

People on Discogs sometimes take pictures of any large value records and the packaged items before sending as form of proof, and in case they get a return which is not the same item. One of several well known scams.

Since my _____ underscore post eBay has gone full retard on its feedback. You can't leave a comment which is in any way negative or has negative connotations if you leave a 4 star or more rating. I bought a woollen jumper that was 100% acrylic, and should have put item not as described but thought I would add 'wool jumper contains no wool'. Not allowed. I usually leave feedback if items are what I expected, and more often for private than commercial sellers but if there is any question I just don't bother.
