The Prehistoric Reptile Klub presents....Themselves, The Brontosaurus Chorus and The Last Dinosaur
Sunday 28th Sep 2008 | Venue: The Portland Arms
Price: £5 (£4 with flier) | Time: 8pm until 10.30pm | View event details

Hi all,

I hope you forgive the event chat but the Puncture Repair Kit have decided we like our friends so much we want them to play at our party, a dinosaur party! I'm charged with biscuit baking so you really ought to come...

The Brontosaurus Chorus are a big noisy 7-piece orchestral indie-pop band from London. We think you will like them a lot. The Last Dinosaur have wooed us all with their tremulous, whimsical and majestic tunes and we think you'll like them a lot as well. The Puncture Repair Kit aren't dinosaur themed so we're going to have to make a special effort to fit in. We'll be providing dino-biscuits and generally palaeontologising the entire event. The party will take place in a watering hole situated beside the vast leafy plains of Mitchums Corner.

Sunday 28th September 2008, The Portland Arms, Mitchums Corner, Cambridge. 8pm-10.30pm £5 (£4 with flier)

This had made it all the way down to page 4! bad gig listing!

We're PRacKticing tonight so we can dino-roar rather than squeak. Updates will continue unabated, but if anyone has biscuit recommendations/requests, get them in quick!

How elaborate does the costume have to be. Hypothetically, were I to wear my gold medallion with the reptile tusk and my green FUBU jumpsuit would that be good enough?

Today's dinosaur fact:

One of the most intelligent dinosaurs was Troodon. It was a hunting dinosaur, about 2 metres long, and had a brain size similar to that of a mammal or bird of today, stereoscopic vision, and grasping hands. In contrast, Stegosaurus had a brain the size of a walnut - only 3 centimetres long and weighing 75 grams. However, comparing brain size to body size sauropodomorphs, like Plateosaurus, were probably one of the dumbest dinosaurs.

I read somewhere that the larger dinosaurs may have had some sort of second brain or summink.

"It used to be thought that the sauropods and Stegosaurus had a second brain. Paleontologists now think that what they thought was a second brain was just an enlargement in the spinal cord in the hip area. This enlargement was larger than the animal's tiny brain."

Brontosaurus is now called Apatosaurus. This dinosaur swallowed leaves and other vegetation whole, without chewing them, and had gastroliths (stomach stones) in its stomach to help digest this tough plant material.

Brontosaurus is now called Apatosaurus. I know this from having a dino-obsessed 5 year old niece. She rolls her eyes when I try to refer to them as brontosauruses...

I might nip along to this... fancy doing summink seeing as I missed the gig last night at the Moon... I am tempted by Austin Stephen's Burmese python show and Pan's Labrynth but dunno if I can stay in three consecutive nights (broken up by an all day session Saturday and nipping back down the pub at midnight)...

Published by Henrythebear at 6:42pm on Sun 28th September 2008.

This thread has been succesively bumped many times over the past week and a bit (I've even posted on it a couple of times). I find it amusing that only this evening, literally now do I look at the first post to see *when* the actual gig is that I find out it's not only this evening but also finished at 22:30.

It's 22:37. I suck.

But then, it's not like I would have turned up anyway I suppose.

Thanks to everyone that came to this! it was attended by a lot of exceptional people. I hope you enjoyed it! We were mostly ill or stressed or just in a bad mood especially for the occasion. Despite this it all went remarkably well and we were able to pay the bands for their trouble. Hooray! Special thanks to Dr Carney for doing the sound and QueenBlag for helping with booking/etc and LittleMi for doing the door for a bit.

Next time we cover something we shall practice it on more than one occasion. Promise. Oh, and hopefully on the 5th November we'll play the songs that we had to miss-out last night when we play with The Research and Betty & The Werewolves! Awooo-kaboom!
