No offence DiS, and this is going to sound massively arrogant (probably because it is- I'm slightly pissed after all), but have you been doing this all night? Do you not have anything better to do? How old are you?

I'm not trying to piss you off honest. Just help you use your time. I get so little free time at the moment that anything I get seems really valuable. I use it to either see my girlfriend or do something that feels a bit productive. This week I have:

1) Finished mixing a record that we're going to sell at the indietracks festival this weekend.
2) Rehearsed with half the band before the festival and arranged a warm up gig tomorrow night for the Danish half of the band that arrive tonight.
3) Made headway on an investigation into a new type of particle decay that we might hopefully pick up at the Large Hadron Collider (it'll tell us something about dark matter and possibly inflation if we're lucky).
4) Read the books of Psalms and Proverbs in the Bible in my ongoing quest to understand the history of philosophy between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance in a roundabout fashion.
5) Watched an amazing German grand prix.
6) Watched the whole of series 1 of The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin for the first time in years with my partner (who I was thrilled to discover loved it! That'll make series 2 and 3 easier :-) )
7) Had some great long bike rides through Coton and Grantchester.
8) Had a lovely thai curry with cherished work colleagues.
9) Explored the weird and wacky world of Guy Maddin, a famed and slightly disturbing Canadian director.

And I've worked the rest of the time (which is my free times is getting really valuable. I'm getting stroppy with the amount of work I have at the moment).

I still haven't had time to learn French and brush up my general relativity but I figure that some things have to wait. If I had as much time as you, I'd use it to have more fun! :-P

i've actualy never done anything like this before and i have no idea why. It really annoys me when it happens on dis so why should i do it here right? I really don't have too much free time, just today.

ah not yet! I'll do it right now though. I'm waiting for some work to finish so have to stay up for at least another half hour.

mwhite - impressive list - you've obviously not got kids.

Lucky bastard!

BTW how are Dark matter and inflation related? Is it something to do with losing your change down the back of the sofa?

mwhite - if you want to "brush up on General Relativity" as you put it, there is a nice course in part II of the Maths tripos. The lecture notes and example sheets (including the classic derivations like precession of the perihelion of Mercury and light bending!) are on the web:

This is less formidable probably than browsing through a textbook, and you learn most from the problems. Don't forget my old books are still downstairs in the Cavendish, and I think there is a copy of Stephani's relativity book, which is a good read.

Good thing I checked the second page - I thought you lot were overreacting a little. ;)

heheh

Dark matter and inflation aren't related per se, but there is new model that explains both at the same time. Its hard to measure unfortunately (and probably untrue!).

Having now watched both of grabsplatters GP links, I highly recommend them. The 50s one has amazing commentary.

N&R- I managed to nick Mike Hobsons quite gentle GR book off bittorrent!
