How do you know we weren't listening?

(Incidentally, if anyone wasn't, they should check www.209radio.co.uk for the schedule).

After many years, community radio on a full FM licence comes to Cambridge. Well done to all concerned.

I guess now's the time to try to persuade Elles to let us back on for her show as BTF, then, just so I can tell my parents to listen in this time.

Excellent news! The name of the station is now very misleading isn't it...

Yeah, they missed a trick there.

Where did the 209 come from in the first place?

Um, hate to say it dudes but because Q103 are so close it’s pretty much impossible to tune in using a transistor radio. Anybody else have more luck with a digital radio?

I can get it fine on a crappy transistor ghetto blaster in my house. It seems to be lower volume/power than Q103 and Kiss (I think) which are on either side. I'll try to find out whether there's a way for people to report bad reception. It broadcasts from the city centre.

Well I'm up on Milton Road opposite the Golden Hind, tried again and I can't pick it up :o(

Hey QB

You should not have a problem up there as i can get the signal on Kings hedges road.

105.0 on your FM radio. Not on digital am afraid.

Well done 209-ers. I know youve all be working on it for years.

i tuned in on my car stereo (had to use the manual tuning thing though as it wouldn't detect between Q103 and VibeFM) i got good reception till i got to the mini roundabout in fulbourn when it started cracking up.

Yeh! I can pick it up in Comberton - but it is a bit faint.

Well done to Tenacious Karl and all the 209 team.

Q103 are just downstairs from me. I'll go ask them if they fancy turning their signal down a bit.

@robadob, the name 209 comes from the house number where the station was started. For the first few years it was all broadcast from Karl and Lucys front room.

According to this on cam.misc, the transmitter is going to be upgraded before too long:

>Its on the catholic church in Hills road with a permitted aerial height
>of 40 Meters above ground level. Currently there is a limited coverage
>from that as the building wasn't designed as a transmitting site;) and
>only one side, the East has aerials on, but this will change as soon as
>is possible so as to even up the coverage.
>
>The radiated power is at 25 watts vertical only at the moment but the
>25 watts Horizontal component will be added in as "soon as" also!..

This is from Tony Sayer who is the main 209 transmitter engineer.
