Does anybody know when the best time to buy a PC from Dell is?
Do they have sales around Christmas?

Don't know when the best time is - but a friend of mine got them to price match a dell laptop that was on ebay... I know it sounds strange but it was true... has to be worth a shot

^^ agreed
Don't buy a Dell unless you absolutely have to. I've had nothing but problems with them.

Can anyone tell me a good place to buy a PC that has good support - I've heard nothing but bad things about all companies that sell PC's?

I've had absolutely no problems with mine, either. I wouldn't buy a desktop from them, but for laptops, it's one of the very few places where you can choose your specifications rather than going with whatever is sold.

i guess it depends on what you are using the computer for.

anything that requires a high performance then dell is definatly out, if u just want a word processor and web browser kinda thing then you could find that they would be ok.

i put my own ones together now cos its easier

You can't build your own laptop, though. Also, Dells are as customisable as you want, their top of the range desktop can have a 3ghz quad core pentium, dual top of the range geforce 8800GTXs, a physics card, 1.5 terrabyte hard drive and 4 gig memory, and a laptop with top of the range dual graphics cards and a 2ghz core 2 duo. Anyone who thinks they need more power than that is deluding themselves. Plus, the desktops are often cheaper than you can build them, as they buy parts in bulk, and subsidise their computers by selling advertising in the form of a load of 30 day trial software preinstalled (and easily uninstalled)

Plus, Alienware is basically a subsidiary of Dell these days, who make ridiculously expensive and ridiculously well equipped PCs

For laptops http://rockdirect.com have been an excellent company that I use a lot. PC World is Dixons, so they are crap. I made the mistake of trying to use them this week that I am seriously regretting.

Robert Sayle is actually a very good store for the service side of things too. When my mac had issues they just replaced it, though I had just wanted to give the damn thing back.

there was an email sent out at work the other day from dell saying they are selling cheap laptops to students. probably a load of crap laptops they couldnt sell to normal people but if you're a student it might save a couple of quid.

I always buy from Dell, but from Dell outlet Uk. Computers that have been sent back for a variety of reasons. They are much cheaper and have the full guarentee. On my third now I think. Give Dell outlet a try..
