Washington DC & New York

Hey kids,

I'm heading out to these two cities soon in a few weeks and I don't want to do the usual tourist stuff. Any suggestions for what to get up to? What off the beaten track places would you recommend i.e. bars, clubs, museums, shops etc. I'm going to be in NYC for Halloween and I'm trying to find a decet gig/party to go to.

Cheers x

If you are going to DC then some of the usual tourist places are pretty good - the Smithsonian Museums and the Memorial Wall are standouts in particular. NY on the other hand is happening enough to better than its tourist landmarks.

I don't normally do touristy things too much but when I went to Washington we went to Arlington Cemetery and that blew my mind away, the size of the place combined with soooo many gravestones each one idetical in size, height and to be perfectly aligned the way they are is amazing and then you remember that each one commemorates someone who dies in battle and it's very very sobering.

Union Square is quite a hip place with some good eateries
Katz Delicatessen for lunch - Where orgasm scene for When Harry Met Sally was filmed
A play on Broadway
Greenwich Village and South Broadway has good shopping . Pop into Magnolia Bakery for a cup cake.
Go up to 51st street at night the skyscrapers lit up knock you back

I didn't have time to make it to the Cemetary, but the Memorial Wall had a similar effect for me. Plus the Abe Statue on the chair is good as well.

>>Cheap shopping! Woo... 21st Century something... It's next to Ground Zero. It's like an awesome designer store where everything is about 15% of normal price.

Century 21. I spent a fortune in there.
