The monks are so brave, so bloody brave.
I hope this matter can be resolved with out more agression, but i fear it wont be.

shame more people on here seem to care more about nme student guides than this... *sigh*
I don't think that's the case, more that, what more is there to say about the situation in Burma that hasn't already been reported in the news and isn't thought by every person that posts in here?

I go with your comment 101% Mr Donkey!

Just look at the front page of 'The Times Of India' now India borders Burma = No a sausage to read about the troubles. This is very disappointing, while Nepal's uprisings are covered in detail, the Burmese protests are ignored blatantly.
If China, India and Russuia spoke out, the oppressive rulers of Burma would have to listen.
Sanctions fron the EU and US will only scratch the surface!

The amount of press coverage about this has been pretty shameful. It's far easier to squeeze the last bit of non-news from the Madeleine McCann case than to actually report something as horrific as this.

Most of the Channel 4 news last night was devoted to this. It was upsetting and angering and my Housemate and I got all irate and shouty.
I think you'll find most people do care but we also mainly post on here when at work. This is not so conducive to reasoned political debate. Ideas of ways to support the protests though are more than welcome.

The reason for lack of action/coverage by India, China et al is simple. Burma sits on great big gas fields which power these two countries.
Hopefully the murdered photographer will spur Japan into action. "The largest foreign donor of overseas development aid to Burma, Japan has officially said it will not cut off aid to the military-run nation. But foreign ministry sources today told The Times that its multi-million dollar donations to the country were now under review."

Only thing that occurred to me about that petition is that the Chinese government aren't exactly adverse to massacre to stop an uprising themselves, so they're probably not going to give a shit about another country doing it.
