[Event Chat] CHURCH OF NOISE feat DOLLAR SENT - 27/09/07

This is idle chat about the event...
CHURCH OF NOISE feat DOLLAR SENT
Thursday 27th Sep 2007 | Venue: The Kambar
Price: £4 | Time: 9pm - 2am | View event details

If you like bands like The Almighty, Motorhead and The Wildhearts then you won't wanna miss these guys.

BTW, its not a gig - its a club night with a band cranking up in the middle. A cross between a gig and a club, a glub?

Rock fans in the world of WAN, make yourselves known.

Oh and forgot to mention...if there are any Judas Priest fans around...Dollar Sent are using the original Judas Priest drumkit. If you are a Priest fan you will know exactly why the original drummer Dave Holland no longer needs it (and thaty's all Im saying!). The guys 'stumbled across it one day'.

I did too and now wish I hadn't. Oh well, you learn something new every day! Will try and talk froby into this seeing as we both have the Friday off to travel to Newcastle. Just looked at train tickets though and unless we can get them cheaper we may have to come to this sober :( why are train tickets to go north so damn expensive! Sorry for the rant.

Yeah, rock and all that!! \mm/ hehe... or as me and THL did on Friday \mmmm/ :D

Published by Clairee at 9:59am on Tue 25th September 2007.

Im also off Friday so will be abusing my liver again. Its also going to an emotional night for reasons that will be revealed at a later date - and NO its not the end of the Church of Noise!

Last night at the Kambar before it heads North to Chalet of Noise on Mitcham's Corner!

Published by ababoonsass at 11:01am on Tue 25th September 2007.

I may be going. It all depends on how much these blasted train tickets are going to cost me tonight. We're looking at about £200 return in total for the 2 of us. Silly money it really is. Annoyingly if we had booked it about 3 weeks ago (when we had no money) it would have been £90! I'm hoping they'll be able to get me cheap as possible tickets when I go to the station tonight.

Published by Clairee at 11:10am on Tue 25th September 2007.

Im going , surely thats enough reason for all of cambridge to attend?

Published by General lee at 11:27am on Tue 25th September 2007.

Big pants! Just looking over our lovely train tickets for Newcastle and the silly woman at the station booked them in for Thursday. So my peaceful day of running about and then rocking out have been changed as we'll be up north!! Any one know of something similar in Newcastle that night??????

Published by Clairee at 8:55pm on Tue 25th September 2007.

Try a place called Trillians - its a venue/club and usually has rock/indie on.

Trillians. Okay, will look into that cheers m'dear!

I'm not sure if Newcastle itself is good, we are off to Ashington, a mining town about 40 minutes from Newcastle to visit Frobys family. But because we are now going a day earlier we are going to Newcastle on the Friday to shop and look around. I'm really excited about it actually!

We were looking at the cost of tickets if we booked 3 months in advance we could go first class for the price it cost to go standard this time. GNER is annoying, if you book way in advance it's super cheap but nearer the time it's super expensive! I'm looking forward to it though and I'll let you know what Newcastle is like when I get back!

I hate Newcastle. Put it down to a bad experience... chased by a gang of thugs down by the riverside and fighting my way out of some underpass. Walking across the bridge and ending up in a real shithole. Walking through the shopping mall and every other person was wearing black and white striped shirts and spoke real fucking funny. Getting hit on by a raging queen who tried to drag me into this dingy bar. Going to Chinatown for lunch to find Chinatown shuts after 2pm... trying to get a a beer but finding all the bars shut after 3pm... this was 8 years ago... giving up on the shithole and going to sleep in my car in the cinema car park. Being rescued at 7pm when I get directions where to go...

The wedding the next day was one of the friendliest and most fun weddings I'd ever been to... but I'll not go back to Newcastle in a hurry. North of Newcastle is incredible along the coastline... castles and quaint villages... Alnwick was splendid....Alnmouth was one of the most relaxing places I'd ever stayed at.

I thought coaches were cheaper clairee?

Coach is cheaper. Well for 2 of us if I got the tickets yesterday would have £107 total. But it takes 8 hours. Change and an hour wait in Milton Keynes and then 5 hours up to Newcastle. We didn't want to do it again! It was just too much especially on the way home when we just wanted to get back fast! So train it is. Looking forward to it now and just planning my site seeing day on Friday now!! :)

Ababoonsass: We are staying in Ashington, little mining town further north and last time we went to the seaside and went to the Woodhorn Mining Museaum which was really interesting!! This time I'm considering a castle and the one at Alnwick was one I've been looking at.

I think the only firm plan we have is that we're going to get pissed all weekend :D

Published by Clairee at 12:53pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

I think my ex, Caroline, is getting married in Alnwick castle.

Published by simon_b (not active) at 12:58pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

All of those castles, from Banburgh to Alnwick and the ruins ... all well worth a visit. Beautiful part of the country... aside from Newcastle (for me, I have friends who love it there for some strange reason).

I drove up there... it's a bit of a trek, coach would be hell... quicker to get to Holland!

Published by ababoonsass at 1:02pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

Hehe but you hate everywhere that isn't North London...

How can anything called "Dollar Sent" not be gangsta rap?

Published by Mattstep at 1:06pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

I've been to Alnwick castle, when I was about 9, stayed for a week in Bamburgh. We got the train and I remember trying to buy chocolate in Newcastle station but being very scared as I couldn't understand what the shop assistant was saying .. before that we had only ever gone on holiday to Norfolk!

Published by Three Headed Lizard at 1:21pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

It might be a Dollar tribute band... David Van Day was it? Went on to steal Bucks Fizz' name from them... other one was Teresa... oh gof, they did some bad songs... including an insipid cover of "I wann hold your hand" I believe... somehow they managed to make it worse than the original...

Published by ababoonsass at 1:23pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

Only some of North London... Wood Green is pushing it and definitely don't like the North West... Wembley... ugh. Crouch End across to Golder's Green is about it really. Down to the South Bank...

We once had Bucks Fizz at the Corn Exchange - some guy hired the building and put them on with Boney M. There were no original members of Boney M and one original member of Bucks Fizz...who was then ill on the day resulting in absolutely NO original members of either band, although David Van whatsit from Dollar was in the band. Not the best gig we've ever put on!

Published by ozzyfrogspawn (not active) at 1:59pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

You should play some Dollar and/or Bucks Fizz at CoN :o)

Published by chelleywithac (not active) at 2:00pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

I like 'Give me back my heart' by Dollar and 'Land of Make Believe' was the best song by Bucks Fizz.

Published by JazzRTC at 2:03pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

I like 'Mirror Mirror Mon Amour' by Dollar and 'If You Can't Stand the Heat' by Buck's Fizz (so many quality tunes to choose from though)

David Van Day has funny hair!

Published by chelleywithac (not active) at 2:25pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

i think id have to agree with Jazz on the best Bucks Fizz song

Published by Rob S at 2:26pm on Wed 26th September 2007.

Maybe Jazz and Rob should buy this. It has the Spanish version of Land of Make Believe on it
