being a tightwad i don't want to pay to use wi-fi when in town, so if anyone could point me at ANY cafes or pubs which might have free wi-fi I would be very grateful. ta. or even free if you buy a pint or a coffee, that would do at a push.

the kingston arms advertises free wifi as long as you buy something over the price of 1 pound.
the "over £1" intrigues me -- they must have had a rash of people turning up and trying to get away with just buying a bag of crisps or a box of matches in order to use the internet for free!

The White Swan has wifi for £2 a day. That's cheaper than a pint.
Of course it remains to be seen how the landlord will react if you just sit in there and use the wifi without buying a pint to go with it!

I'm in a hotel in Glasgow, and paid money yesterday evening for 24 hours' worth of WiFi in my room. I went out this morning and spotted a cafe/bar literally right next to the hotel offering free WiFi. Damnit.

I like CB2's network. Pretty fast as well. I guess you really need to at least buy a cup of coffee, although if you were a well cheeky monkey, sitting in their garden would work...

Hmm. I guess when the Apple store opens in the new shopping centre, it'll have free wifi.
