Help needed.

So i woke up with a pigging Sore throat and i have to sing tonight (ok ok shout in tune)

so any idea's for bad throats ? or something i can take jusy b4 going on stage that well let me play .....?

im sure we had this conversation before but i can't find the thread.

Port is very good for coating the throat for singing.

I have a cure all cold remedy which works a treat. Get a pint of orange Juice, spponful of honey, shot of whiskey and a beechams powder. Whack them in the microwave until they are hot and then drink it.

Works a treat.

The doctor has advised me not to sing for a bit to make my throat better. I told her I would absolutely do that but not until after the gig :o)

do you think it will work without the alcohol ? im still suffering after effects of getting wankered at junction.

Not sure. You can try it. It is only one shot though so it shouldn't hurt you. I had one last night with 1.5 shots in it and it didn't make me pissed or anything. I forgot the Beechams though and that is an essential component. make sure it is the original Beechams powder though, not the Lemsip type ones.

Its not the general effect of alcohol thats a problem.

Honey and lemon is about the best thing you can do for your throat. Hot water, half a lemon, honey.

That and just rest your voice until tonight.

Oh, and make sure you warm up beforehand.

And don't go fishing!

no no no, lemon is all acid and hurts the throat more. Honey however is grand, and Matt Abysmal once recommended me lots of Onken Biopot, however what with you being all dodgy with milk I suggest honey off a spoon and pineapple juice.

Lemon, ginger and honey are really good for sore throats. Not sure if it'll help enough to shout/sing. But you can get lemon and ginger tea bags in most supermarkets, boiling water, let it stew for about 5 mins or just leave the tea bag in whilst drinking and then add some honey. It's vital that you leave the tea bag in for a long time or just leave it in cos the longer it stays in hot water the stronger the ginger and thats what really helps!

ooh, forgot to say, if you can't find any of the tea bags and you wanna give it a whirl pop over to the hooper street posse house. I'm home all day and have a supply of tea bags and honey.

Onken Biopot contains Streptococcus - bacteria which makes dodgy throats fuck off. The fat free Strawberry one is ace.

This might not help immediately, so I'd advise getting yourself some Vocalzone from Superdrug or similar, which will not help per se, but will make you able to sing in the short term.

Other good things are de Kuypers Apricot Brandy, as much water as you can possibly tolerate, and Cafe Creme cigars.

What is this vocalzone people mention ? i have never heard of it

i think vocal zone is something that really clears out all the blocked up channels, i used to use something similar when i was a singer, dunno if it would help a sore throat. lots of strepsils losenges would help possibly

2 heaped spoonfulls of cocaine prior to getting on the stage usually sorts you out. Taken via a rolled note or a straw. You fly through the first 4-5 songs, then start fucking up and becoming paranoid that you have lost the ability to play the guitar... then you'll snap a string, paranoia will hit deep and you'll have to scarper as the prospect of changing a string is a daunting task...
