I have just seen some Tory tosser on Look East decry that it is bad enough that we have 'illegal' imigrants coming in from Europe but on the news that some ragged, starving people were seen emerging from awful conditions in the back of a lorry on the A45 was purple with outrage that we now have put up with 'illegal' imigrants coming from Iraq!

Perhaps he was thinking that since the Iraqis owe us such a huge debt of gratitude because of our efforts at bringing them democracy and freeing them from a regime bristling with phantom weapons of mass destruction that the least they could do is not embarrass us by coming and showing us how much they had personally benefited.

Yes - reminds me of a time years ago when I was in an Indian takeaway and some obnoxious bone-head, when his meal wasn't ready within five minutes, started ranting 'We gave these people railways, and they can't give us quick service'. He continued in a similar vein, for a minute or two, before realising that nobody in the place, including the bloke behind the counter, appeared to be taking a blind bit of notice - this was probably more effective than challenging him, as he just fizzled out.

The man behind the counter not taking a blind bit of notice is the very best case scenario that the neaderthal in your story can hope for.
One rule of thumb that I never deviate from is 'never mess with the people who are cooking your food'. Especially if they're doing somewhere that you can't see them.
It has always puzzled me that boneheads and arseholes of all varieties, who act up in restaurants, haven't at least wondered at the possibility that the staff they're abusing are in the perfect position to have the last laugh.
