Noticed...
"cute little privately owned second hand record store" doesn't appear on the confirmed list.

Is this what used to be the Lion Yard? Will they still have the big red lion?

Published by Dr Rhythm at 12:41pm on Mon 17th September 2007.

No it's not the Lion Yard, it's the old Robert Sayle site.

The red lion disappeared a few years ago didn't it? I think I remember the CEN having some article on it with people complaining but I don't know if I'll come back or not - the least that could happen is to put it in the Folk Museum.

I bid on a Bose soundock on ebay on Friday night when I was still not quite over the anathestic and got it for £120 inc p&p - I now have to find the money but since Bose sell them at £199 on offer do have to say that I can get a good bargain when I bid under the influence.

Ooh, we getting a mall... lots of things for sale that I will never buy. I'm surprised it was just going to be one huge NEXT store. God I hate that store... so big, so everywhere...

i don't get it, half these shops already exist in cambridge... (the other half I don't really care about). What's wrong with cancom for apple stuff?

Cancom will shrug indifferently when you take your faulty Apple product in to them, Apple will give you a new one on the spot with a smile and a handshake.

Really? When I first went to Apple in London to buy my laptop I was ignored for about 20 minutes, then the guy suggested I get it off the internet, without helping me at all.

:-(

But i forgive them because applecare ever since then has been great.

The only time I've sworn at one of these telesales people was when they rang me up asking about AppleCare. But it was very clever swearing.

All I can say is funky. I'll miss my trips to Regent Street to spend money!

If it's within warranty (a year usually) then yes. They will know that by checking the serial number.

After three years of stearling service my ipod now has an unhappy face on it and it seems that the disc thing is stuck - it whirs for a bit then gives up and turns itself off. I have everything backed up on my compooter so I had hoped that I could have re-booted it. However, my computer doesn't even recognise its presence when I plugged it in. I've done all the usual holding down buttons tricks but all to no avail. I checked out the cost of repairing it and was staggered to find out that it would be £166 and as the new ipod classic is 'only' £159 and this seems a bit rum. Oh well it was a very good thing while it lasted and I suppose that if you use anything portable everyday for three years its bound to break eventually.

^click of death, tis what killed mine.

Published by lozzy at 11:27am on Tue 18th September 2007.

Give it a sharp slap on the back, then try plugging it in - I miraculously mended Barney Booze's iPod this way. The clicking noise is the hard disk sticking over a sticky sector or something, it's a manual mechanism so a sharp jolt can sometimes set it on the way to recovery...

I tried hitting it on the back gently at first (like you do) then increasingly violently on the side and front too as I realised that I had little to lose...and you'll never guess what...it only spluttered back to life didn't it. Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you. You have just saved me a small fortune, if ever we shold meet the beer/wine/vodka is definately on me!

You, sir/madam, are a genius. Oh happy, happy day :-)
