Is there a spot on Restaurant by the River?

Hi all

Apart from the Midsommer, does anyone know of a really nice restaurant in Cambridge that isn't going to break the bank? I am taking a mate out for a spot of lunch next Saturday and fancy somewhere nice by the river... but as I'm new to the area, can I ask does anyone know anywhere good, unpretentious and cost effective!

Many thanks,
Sarah

The Galleria is shit though. You could try 22 - that's near the river (though not overlooking it).

What about a restaurant or bistro... anything like that... just checked reviews for the Granta which are mixed... but might check it out if no where else.

Thanks.... :)

La Mimosa?

Granta is basic pub food. But the setting is lovely and they do a good trade there. The Bella pasta (or whatever it's called now) next to the Granta looks really nice... saw people eating Tapas outside the other week and it did look scrummy.

Henry's has a nice restaurant area and that's on the river. Anchor public house...

The Old Spring is near the river and does pretty good food.

What about river bar? It's on the boardwalk between quayside and jesus green. If you go punting with one of the independent companies down on jesus green then you get 20% discount in there...
There's also café uno and henrys, both of which i've always found pretty good.
The food at the Fort is good and not as pricey as the drinks.

22 doesn't open for lunch.

The Green Dragon in Chesterton does decent pub grub and has a beer garden that goes down to the river.

Best place by far is the River Bar and Kitchen - by Magdalene bridge walk along the river past Henry's and it's tucked away on the right. They do lunches every day except Mondays I think and if you get a copy of Explorer there's always a buy one get one free voucher on their main meals. Bargain! They're really nice people in there, the food is good and you get a nice view of the river. Much, much better than Mimosa a bit further down the river who are stuck firmly up their own arses.

La Mimosa ! very nice, i wouldnt say they are stuck up there own arses at all, me and my girlfriend wandered in with no bookings and they made us a table right by the river....food was spot on, except for seafood salad starter-that was pretty shit as it tasted like alot of tinned/pickled in brine type mussels and squid rather than fresh fish seafood salad i thought it would be and i hate that vinegar taste....but otherwise my swordfish steak was bloody fantastic and maybe my fault for not reading the menu properly on the starter.

Or if its just lunch go and sit outside at The Boathouse....foods loverly in there and much cheaper...but its a pub....Old Spring further downs a smart looking resturant/pub, foods really good too.
