Urgent! Guitar Tuition...

Needed for my 10 year old daughter on a weekly basis. She was bored with the CIMA tuition at school and would rather learn to play tunes she likes...and noisy she likes...also I couldn't afford them another year.
I can't pay for it in money but I am happy to give in return English or French Tuition (I am a qualified teacher), admin work or even dressmaking/seamstress work. Actually i can do a lot of useful or creative stuff and it's worth asking me...plus I'm desperate to make myself useful & I have time on my hands.
I'd like to add that my kid is very musical and once motivated will be great fun to teach to. :)..Those who know her please put in your take on this :)
Please PM me if you think that you'd be interested.
Many many thanks. xx

Virginie - I can't help with the guitar lessons as I'm not musical but would love to pick your brains about dressmaking/seamstress stuff at some point if that's okay?

of course Talullah. Though it's something I started more by instinct than else. I'm ok hands on but not big on theory.

Why do all guitar teachers teach people first position chords and how to play boring blues songs, before breaking into "house of the rising sun" to show off how much better they are than the student?
I've always thought it would be much better to show them how to do powerchords then, how to play a loud of noisy punk songs and get them into enjoying playing first.

Maybe it's just me.

Whereas I can see what I want to do but have no idea how to go about it!

Virginie, it sounds like www.camlets.org might be what you're looking for.

It's a skills exchange group based in Cambridge and I recall there being people on there offering all sorts of music tuition. It's all done through a virtual currency and minimal sterling costs. I would add that it pays to be firm about what you're prepared to offer in terms of time and charge if you decide to go for it.

i couldnt agree more... i started teaching myself at 14, and spent the first few years of my playing basically playing nirvana and smashing pumpkins songs, the former basically is just power chords.

and it was fun.

I've always wanted to go into a music shop like Millers and bash out a stupendous drum solo. I think I watched Fame too much in the 80's.

Thanks Smithy. I thought about it but i was involved with a similar thing (Only Connect)a few years ago & didn't like it much. Mind you I wasn't sure what I could offer at the time as I was also a full-time student with 2 young kids and didn't really have time to spare for anything else than studies and family (well...throw in a fair bit of partying too). Whereas now I want to put a lid on the partying and want to focus on more constructive activities...I might give Camlet a go after all...a good bit of live thinking process here :))
...and YES, power chords is what my pre-teen is looking for.
My son started the drums by making a lot of noise (a lot of it), and now a few years on in the learning he is really enjoying learning more of a variety of rhythms :)

I think I might have encountered a pretentious arse that might have set up Only Connect (can I say that about them? Too late!). There's a few earthy Cambridge types mixed with vibrant academics but a reasonable mix. The only reason I'm not involved is because of the ivf at the moment, it's hard enough balancing my OU degree and a full time job, guess as a parent of 2 you'd know more about that than me!
