WiFi Access?

In the past 24 hours, I've been approved for a bank account, declined for a cell phone contract, and told we cannot get internet access at our flat until October 1st. This places me firmly at the margins of society, which is probably about right.

Anyhow, I found a thread on this topic dating back to 2005, but perhaps things have changed for the better or worse since. Are there any places around town with free WiFi access? These internet cafe costs are adding up unnecessarily fast, though I've gotten to know several malodorous tourists by smell and been fortunate enough to see several of the internet's hottest webcam shows for the small price of sharing public space with somewhat suspect men.

Also, thanks to Queeny for meeting us at the Portland Tuesday night. We owe her a pint and a novella.

The Portland is one place and The Arts Cinema Bar is another.

The Arts Cinema on Regent Street. Joosypigeon can often be found there, I think. Um, does The Portland, too?

Ins - come to the Half-Dayer thing at the Portie on Saturday, then you can meet lots of WANers :-)

Places off the top of my head are CB1 and CB2 and the picturehouse cafe. I think the Portland may also be WiFi enabled but that could be the fever talking.

Yes, I probably should have mentioned the Portland has WiFi, or so said the signs when we were there Tuesday night. I just wanted to have a healthy mix of places from which to beg, borrow, or steal internet access.

What's this half-day on Saturday? Queeny also tipped us off to something Friday night.

Yes we done have free wifi at the portland, just ask a member of staff for the access code

Also, there may or may not be a guitar waiting for me behind the bar at the Portland. A kind man named Jimmy said he'd leave it there yesterday, for me to borrow, but I haven't been by to check. This Portland is rapidly becoming indispensable, both for social niceties and storage space.
