Oyster Cards

I'm gonna be spending a week down in the smoke next week and will be travelling alot so thought it's best to pick up one of these. Can I get them from Kings Cross? Don't have a credit card to do it online so want to do it once down there.

Also, is there a site that gives me night buses times as I'm thinking my travels will be mainly when the tubes are shut. (what time do the tubes shut?)

London Transport Journey Planner gives you all possible options (train / tube / bus etc). It even gives you a 'walking' option, if that makes most sense for your journey.

Walking? No thanx, it'll be travelling from Tottenham Court Rd to Wimbeldon every night so I guess not. Ironically, it'll probably be quicker for me to come back to Cambridge every night but definatly not cheaper :/

but thanx for that link, will help massively.

The walking thing is useful if, like me, you don't really know London that well. I always just jump on one tube to get to another, and sometimes the two places might be ridiculously close, ie 5 minutes walk, but two changes on the tube, for instance.

Wimbledon is a trek... there will be a nightbus... tubes kinda die after 12:30 but you only have an overland line to Wimbleon... it's pretty much as far out at Kingston... have fun!

Wimbledon's lovely - v. posh. Stayed with a friend there once in a beautiful 20s/30s art deco-ish flat.

I bought an Oyster Card in Leicester Square tube station. I think any station with a ticket office could probably sell you one.

Also some tube stations have vending machines which you can buy them from, so basically Jazz you should be fine.

this is me we're talking about. I'll probably end up giving it to 2 girls as soon as I bought it.

The only thing with the overline train to Wimbledon after a night out is .....
DON'T FALL ASLEEP!
You'll wake up in Southhampton or Portsmouth. I used to live there ....

Oh fuck yes, Jazz is going to Southampton!!!

And didn't we go down the pub the night before so you were hideously wrecked while running to catch the train?

So, who's up for getting pissed on Monday night....?

You'll be wrecked at Prince on Sunday night too... might as well stay in London from then... keep you away from us for awhile!

You can buy them at any tube station including Kings Cross. They are around a fiver, then you can top them up. Within zones 1 and 2 a single journey with an oyster card costs £1.50. A single ticket costs £4.00 so it's a big saving. However, you have to remember to touch your oyster card out at the end of every journey (this is everytime you physically go through the ticket barrier to leave a tube station, not changing trains mid journey), otherwise your card will be charged the appropriate single fare for that journey.

If you are planning to make lots of journeys in a single day, it may be cheaper to use a one day travelcard.

Most tubes are shut by 0030 hrs ish, it depends where you are going to. Tfl can tell you about night buses.

So it looks like I could get the 00:30 each night which may be realistic (unless I go drinking). I also discovered it's not Wimbledon but South Ealing which is cool. Half hour train journey.

Thanx for the help.

I'm seeing a gig in Kings College, then afterwards I do not know? Are you mobile yet? Call me. Or will Thandor just holler? If I hear the mighty roar I shall come running.
