Train Commute from London to Cambridge

I saw that someone recently asked about the commute from Cambridge to London by train. I was wondering if anyone has any advice about traveling in the opposite direction. I am thinking about taking a job in Cambridge, but my boyfriend lives in London. How easy is the commute from London to Cambridge via train? I did some research and it seems like train tickets would cost £4000 a year!? I was also wondering about the Cambridge bus system. I would have to get a bus to Cambridge Science Park. Would I take the "C1" bus? Please let me know if you have any advice or information.... Thanks so much!

apparently its cheaper to just buy an oyster card for the trains. and take a risk on the rest of the fare. apparently the fines will be cheaper (if you're stopped you say you got on at the last stop and getting off at the next) than paying for the travel the whole year. this however illegal and immoral and not recommended by me at all.

Busses, you'd probably need to get one of many busses into the city centre, then get the 99 green park and ride bus to the Science Park.

Or you could walk up to Mill Road and get the Citi 2.

It seems stupid on a quite cosmic scale that there is no direct bus from the station to the science park.

Depends where you come out. If you go over the cycle bridge you come out in Romsey :P

but that would be silly if you were getting the bus in the direction of town. Anyway all the COOL people live in Romsey. MASSIIIIVE

The Cowley Road Park & Ride bus now goes from near the top of Station Road (about 5 minutes' walk from the station) to near the Science Park so I would probably do that. The Citi2 is about as unreliable as it could be and about the only thing I don't miss about not living in Romsey now.

I've found it noticeably better since they changed the timetables back in April.

The London to Cambridge trains are fine and obviously never as crowded as commuting in the other direction. The problem is that your journey from the train station to the science park will potentially take just as long as the one from London to Cambridge. The Cowley Rd park and ride bus is definitely the best option, but be warned, they've been reducing the number of stops. It currently stop on Hills Rd (close to the bottom of Station Rd) and the Cowley Rd site is right opposite the science park. If you don't mind a long commute it's definitely possible though. Avoid the C1, it takes longer and stops a good 10-15 minute walk from the science park.

You are really Dis_Inventing the wheel. People commute from Cambridge to London because of the superior salaries and I fear that, you doing the opposite, the loss of income might break you..All the best..
