Balls, that's the date of another family birthday. Is it very bad of me to hope she doesn't want to see us on the night?

*prays to the gods of scheduling*

Oh great spreadsheet in the sky! Thine name is mighty and wondrous! How thou doth Excel in all things! I ask unto thee to clear a column of great blankness on one solitary eve whereupon the Suit that is Bear and the Kit that is Puncture Repair may synchronise in glorious clatter and fullness of clang to make merry the people of this fair city in which we do live. Your rows be blessed, your columns be holy. Amen.

Matt, i hope if you're unable to play that you can still attend?

Published by simon_b (not active) at 9:17am on Wed 29th August 2007.

Yeah, I can definitely still attend!.. And everyone I know will be badgered incessantly about going as well.

There's a lot of... erm... contrast in that line up isn't there...

Published by Mattstep at 1:03pm on Wed 29th August 2007.

Not now there isn't, as Winter Kings can't do it.

Published by simon_b (not active) at 1:06pm on Wed 29th August 2007.

I'm afraid The Winterkings are cancelling this one after much deliberation.

Our apologies to everyone

But Bearsuit rock so we'll be along to watch.

Thats a shame. I was looking forward to seeing The Winterkings...I like their Myspace songs. Remind me a bit of Nick Cave's Bad Seeds stuff. "... erm... contrast" is a GOOD thing in a gig in my opinion.

Published by tofuescape at 1:12pm on Wed 29th August 2007.

Oh yeah, I hadn't noticed the change of venue. I'm very pleased it's not at the bloody Soul Tree:-)

Published by Mattstep at 1:18pm on Wed 29th August 2007.

How about Bomb Factory to fill the opening void?

We like Bearsuit and The Furious Sleep. And can warm stages like bitches. Or something.

Oooh, Bomb Factory. I haven't seen them yet so that'd be great.

Published by Mattstep at 2:10pm on Wed 29th August 2007.

And in true 1984 fashion it's like they were never not playing.

Published by simon_b (not active) at 2:12pm on Wed 29th August 2007.

Thats great. Bomb F and us have played about a thousand gigs together, and i would gladly play another thousand. It's going to be fun. Are Barfly re-arranging the place in any way, or will it be the same as when it was The Loft?

As its my birthday tomorrow - and 9/11 is not the best day for a celebration - I'll be going out tonight to sink a couple of swift halves. So if there are any fairies or museos out there who know me and that fancy meeting up then I'll be supporting Simon's latest (ad)venture at The Graduate.

Morning all! Well I'm now home after my road-running shenanigans. I managed to almost completely miss c&c&c but I saw most of the other 5 bands and they were good. Yes. Check out those reviewing skills. Pretty eloquent eh.

Did I mention that I love Bearsuit? Yes? Oh... Well: I love Bearsuit. They were on form tonight though the sound did leave quite a lot to be desired, apparently there are curtains and stuff arriving at the Grad soon to help with that but, still, I've heard better in that room. They are a very difficult band to do sound for but it has been achieved pretty well the other times I've seen them (Metro London and B2 Norwich). The audience and the band made up for it though and the usual perma-grin was maintained throughout and for some time afterwards. From now on all guitars will be played by smashing tambourines into them and all Korgs will have "Yamaha" painted on them to maintain a veneer of low-fidelity. Short shorts rule.

I ended up buying ALL the merchandise:)

I am now poor:(

The album sounds great. Buy it. Then buy it again for a loved one.

It's a Microkorg, it doesn't need to have "Yamaha" painted on it to make it seem low fidelity.

The band brought their own sound engineer. The consensus was that he wasn't too hot.

Sorry we didn't make this in the end. Oh accursed family, who keep selfishly having birthdays, bah!

Published by Jude 1 (not active) at 8:24am on Tue 11th September 2007.

Bearsuit were really good fun... enjoyed them immensely. Missed BOMB FACTORY but caugfht all of THE FURIOUS SLEEP and they are the worst band I have seen in a long time. I liked the drums and bass work at times but jeez. If they are your friends and you tell them you like them... please now tell them the truth. Possibly the worst singing I have heard in a band ever... appalling.

BEARSUIT more than made up for that though... they'd be a lot better on a Saturday night with a rowdy Saturday night drinking crowd... it's hard to get excited on a Monday... it's always going to be Tuesday when you awake and that's a big downer.

Thank you Simon.

It seemed like the typical problem of "proper" venues having big sound systems and then engineers turning them right up. Most engineers wear earplugs and don't try and set up the sound for the majority of the crowd who aren't wearing them.

Bearsuit were great, though.

Yeah, in that room the guys who did the install said that the worst thing you could do in that room would be to run it really loud.

Hey Simon,
Thanks again for having us on the bill. A great night of music all round (i even managed to catch the last 2 Cats songs). Glad the night was a success. Roll on the next one.

The venue is much improved with the sound desk put back, really opens up the hall, and in turn the bar, as half of it is no longer in a corridor. If there is further expansion/re-structuring to create more space then there's a helluva venue there. It was shit before, never liked it there, but last night (a Monday indie gig!) I had a good time and was impressed. Looking forward to some good gigs in the future and can't wait to see how they get the downstairs area working cuz that could be the coolest alternative/indie hang out since the old Cambridge Arms days.
