It's a worse band name when you realise that the Pete in question is Peter Perrett Jr, son of Peter Perrett, he of the Only Ones, otherwise known as the Only One Decent Tunes.

That said, PandthePs are pretty good. They should've been Pete and the Parrots, though...

some other woeful band names around at the moment I guess...

What like Stone Temple Pilots? *runs*

Oh come on, it's an awful band name, even if you like the music *dodges flying goat*

otherwise known as the Only One Decent Tunes

Oh come off it. Have you ever actually listened to any of their other records?

one of the very best post-punk bands...

A short list of fucking amazing Only Ones songs:

The Big Sleep
Lovers Of Today
The Beast
Prisoners
Why Don't You Kill Yourself?
Me & My Shadow
From Here To Eternity
Miles From Nowhere
Programme
No Solution
etc.

I guess the son's band name might have something to do with the B-side of the first Only Ones single, which was called 'Peter and the Pets'?

It's just one of those rubbishy grunge bands with a name that doesn't really mean anything, like Pearl Jam.

* applies more mind bleach to the forward engines *

No it's no good. I still wish I'd never been told what it actually, and so obviously now, means.

I thought it was something filthy, but Wikipedia says otherwise. Hrm.

Well I'm fairly sure Mother Love Bone is pure filth.

The Only Ones had great songs but by writing one of the best songs ever "Another girl, another planet" they shot themselves in the foot a bit. I uploaded an ONLY ONES CD at the Portland ages ago, you should ask to hear it and see.

perhaps it was about a dog called Mother.

This was really good last night... didn't think the support band were upto much, but Pete & The Pirates were great.
