Can't believe that it's the open studios again - must be uhm.... summer?

I was planning visit some of the artists in the city. As I'm probably going to go around them on my own I wondered if anyone else was plannning to since it would be nice to say hello if anyone was about.

Perhaps it was a kind of performance art - 'Portrayal of a Rude Git'.

But those are the best ones - you can critique their choice of carpets as well as the artwork!

I prefer the rude ones. I hate the people who hover just behind you and expect comments and gushing adoration. You can't look at them properly when someone is just behind you. I feel really awkward then.

I've never been to any of these as this kind of embarrassment has been just what I've always feared!

I'll have to be sober otherwise I'd talk to anyone about all sorts of crap! I'll probably do the Artworks on Green Street and St Barnabas and any glass artists since I chat about what they're doing with a degree of knowledge.

It's a few years since I made the effort to go to any of these. I remember some being friendly and welcoming and one or two who looked put out at having riff-raff in their fine homes - I wanted to say 'You don't have to participate in this - and don't act as if it's some kind of honour and privilege for us to be allowed to look at your work, you are trying to flog it to us, when all's said and done'.

Most of them just leave you to it. It's all fine, except you usually come away with the impression that everyone has a nicer house than yours.

I will have an open studio one day before I leave Cambridge - it's the one thing I have to do. I'll set up some sort of secret signal for WANers.
