Party venue suggestions please!

I'd like your recommendations on party venues in and around Cambridge!

It's to celebrate a wedding, but it's not a wedding reception (in that we don't want them to hike up the price the moment the "w" word is used! ;-))

We will have gotten married in a civil ceremony months before this do.

So -- it will about 35 people, and we'd like to provide our own booze and I've already found the caterer I'd like to use. A period property would be ideal.

Cost is an issue, or I'd just hire a wedding planner person to deal with it :-)

Suggestions?

I guess this may turn out too pricey, but how about one of the colleges? They've got lovely venues and are v picturesque. Various colleges hire out various rooms (some would also give you use of the bar too, which could be handy?). We had our wedding and reception at Newnham College, and it was lovely. Also, college grounds are usually v. well maintained, so look lovely for wedding photos.

I, too, got married at Newnham College. Jude ... you're not my wife, are you? Great place for a wedding.

Another good place for a meal / reception is at the Cambridge Lodge Hotel on Huntingdon Road. They have a nice dining room, bar, pretty garden, etc. Not sure about prices, though ...

OR, although my husband is, indeed an 'Old Rocker', and you both know The Beast, I don't think you and I are married (I'm sitting right next to my husband at the moment, and he assures me he's not just posted on this board!). Cracking venue though eh? Happy days...

Lemongrass: another suggestion would be the Orchard tearooms in Granchester. I think they do private parties, and it's meant to be dead picturesque. Nicer in summer though, what time of year are you planning the 'do for?

Jude, this would be June, so the Orchard would be a contender!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Keep em rolling in.

I will of course let you know what we decide on :-)
